Do you mean, replace the fluid after running the car and the fluid still warm? Or can I fill a little more then run the car, then after heating the fluid and switching between gears open the plug just to release the excess?

If you want to replace the fluid first, get it warm before you do so. Confirm you are using the correct fluid Esso/Mobil 47221.

If you just want to do a level check, you can add the half litre cold and then heat the fluid up before you do the level check.
