...I think this forum is rapidly losing its usefulness as it becomes more and more clogged with useless crap.
Is there any chance we can get rid of the ranking system and stop the 'star chasing' and bring this forum back to being a place where we can talk about our PEUGEOT 206 CCs.
I'm getting really p***ed off at coming here and reading about the World Cup, Tim Henman and now Big Brother! Keep it up and this forum will die through lack of new members when all they can see are irrelvant discussions padded out with blank entries.
If we can't get rid of these things, how about a separate discussion forum for non car related stuff?
Sorry for coming on like an old fart but I can guarantee that this forum will die if informative car related posts are swamped by a small clique trying to outdo eachother on how many irrelevant entries that can rack up.
Vince.
(PS Only 78 posts to go before I get a bigger star.)

i understand you point ... but surely the whole point of the forum is to bring togther 206cc owners and make new friends. There are specific areas already for dedicated stuff, ie Stylin / Tuning and the discussion are for anything else (?). It doesn't need to be pug related - i mean can you imagine what would happen if we all got togehter in a pub one night - things would get pretty boring if we just talked pugs all night.
The reason I joined was only partly to do with the 'technical' aspects. THe main reason was to chat with a bunch of like minded people.
anyway that's my two pennyworth.

Chill Vince - the useless cr@p is where the fun is

Then you'd lose the competitive edge that drives people to post till their fingers bleed

I say again, Chill out Man, I'm as newbie as you can get (on this board) and I find the 'irrelevant' posts MUCH more fun than the 'technical' ones. The Board is a resource sure, (and a VERY useful one too!) a chance for people to share their experieneces, but the 'discussion' section should be fun as well as useful (IMHO)

Isn't that what the 'discussion' forum is meant to be (hint, the clue is in the title![]()
)

Think you'l find that the 'irrelevenat entries' attaract more debate than the 'informative car related posts'. and it's debate that keeps forums like this 'alive'. But hey, there's plenty of room for both.
Vince

I'll probably never get a big star![]()

I agree Vince, When I first started on this site I found most discussions interesting but the last few months I have propbably posted about 2. I have started to lose interest in the site but dont want to see it disappear as sometimes it has been really helpful.
As for the star things I agree that we should get rid of it as people abuse the system to get bigger and better stars.
Regards
Gareth

I agree
And I admit - there was a time where I'd reply to mails jsut to get to the next star...
When I come on here and see the "latest post" listings I often see a dozen or so messages in a row from the same person, one after the other and when I read those mails - its quite often off topic and irrellevant.
I did mention an Off topic section a while ago but the problem is that even on topic subjects are getting full of non206 related stuff

Hmm Vince - a thinly disguised dig, i think, at me - being the author of the Wimbledon, Big Brother and Quiz of the Day topics.
Well i apologise for not being a car bore like yourself. I apologise for having more in my life than an automobile. I apologise for my lack of mechanical and technical knowledge about cars.
I use this site because there are people who can help me out with my shortcomings to enable me to get a little more driving pleasure out of my CC. There are people here that can strike a good balance between useful CC-related information and a sense of humour. I would say there are a few different categories of people who use the forum...
1. Car-bores: only post CC related answers to (usually pretty dull) questions
2. CC enthusiasts: people who just want the occasional tip or bit of advice to a particular problem or query they have
3. Everyone else: Those of us for who the Peugeot 206CC isn't the only thing in life. People with normal healthy interests in other things such as music, sport, films, jokes, gadgets etc.
As for your comment that the forum will die - I started visiting in around Mrch this year, in that time (in my opinion) the forum has gone from strength to strength. I see no signs of what you are saying whatsoever. I am looking forward to the meet in September not only to see a load of cars, but to meet some of the people that make this forum such a compulsive place to visit. Its more like a group of friends than a group of strangers who happen to have a make of car in common with each other. I know for a fact that when we meet up the conversation will not purely be CC's. If it was - I wouldn't go.
As a wise forum user said recently, there's only so many times you can ask the same CC-question. If you need a specific piece of advice or to ask a specific question, go to the area relating to that eg interior/tuning etc.
On the subject of "star-chasers" - LIGHTEN UP, its only a bit of fun! Admittedly some of us get a perverse pleasure from it. BUT SO WHAT?
Vince - Live and let live man....

Maybe we need a chat room or a general chit chat room. But if all the posts were just about CC's then memebers will start to go else where. (just look at other forums such as pug-gti there are hardly any new posts) After all i've been here since the old forum and the same question come up time and time again. So you have to look at it from 2 points of view, one for people getting to know other members and two for people coming onto to find information. Though i think your right about the stars business, maybe it should be based on how long you've been a member.

yepp.. Im with you Vince...
For me, living outside GB, the most importante is to read about the car and maybe be able to help someone once a while.
But I am a guest in another countries forum and dont want to complain.
Even if it is alot of non cc talk it is quite easy to navigate and follow the most interesting treads.
I think the main problem is when all the non cc stuff is in a serious tread between all the cc related posts.
But if this is how the members want the forum and this earn the main purpose with this forum, I as a guest have no problem acepting it.
Hope there is space enough on the forum so everybody can enjoy it!!! :-)

Id be afraid to say anything in this post its a little 50/50 here .its true that some people will get annoyed at anything not car related i can well understand that and respect it, as when i joined i needed to know and still do things about the cc ,but i dont think i would be visiting the forum if wasnt the other stuff and very friendly and mature people here who go out of there way big time to help i think i would just dip in now and again and chances are it would be empty or gone .i do have a sugestion why not if possible have a chat room section im not sure if anyone would use it but its a thought. (climbing down of the soap box now)
