Hi guys, I've got a 2004 1.6 cc, which really has been trouble free..... until the starter started sticking, I was told to either park on a slope to start it or just keep trying with the key until it caught, for the two days before the starter arrived and my mate could replace it. Both of these worked but I did notice the economy mode was on. New starter arrived , mate put it on and nothing not even the clicking of the starter as was there before. He took starter off and tested it and it worked. He put it back on and still nothing when the key is turned.
Problems no starter clicks, economy mode showing, no heater, windscreen wipers, radio or windows. A mobile mechanic told me to put a lead from the neg terminal to the body work to test the earth, and still nothing. Has anybody any ideas. The battery is new, as is the starter and solenoid.
Any ideas would be welcomed. Thanks Rob

Eco mode will go when you start it, and the wipers etc: will come back to life. You did follow the correct battery disconnect method as shown on this site?
Where did you get starter? Was it new?

Re: Starter motor / economy mode.
Hi Col, and thanks for your reply. First to answer your questions, the starter was replaced as it was sticking, and yes it was new. I can only presume the battery was taken off correctly.
The starter stopped sticking / working on turning the ignition with no clicking. So I was told the solenoid had also packed up. On putting the new starter on ( tried and tested off the car all ok) there was nothing, and eco mode showing. So is the eco mode stopping the starter turning over, or is there something else stopping it and keeping the eco mode on ?

Re: Starter motor / economy mode.
No, don't get hung up on the eco mode. It's just a self preservation state it enters after about 30mins of ign on but no start. It will go once engine starts.
I think you have either a faulty new starter (which is why I asked where it came from as there are poor aftermarket ones out there)
It's not correctly connected or the wiring to it has gone faulty.
