Car stereo, steering controls

Post by Kelly contina »

Hi guys, I'm not new to the forum I've been here the past 4 months with roof problems on my 1.6 2001 model, these never got sorted but last week she finally died on me didn't bother to have her looked at, it's Deffo engine problems when the car starts the engine is bouncing around all over the place, so in the end I've brought another one, so to get to my point I now have a 2003 model and today had to sort out key fob with new battery and reset, then put the correct 30amp fuse for lighter/charger so while I was at it I wanted to swap my stereo over, I had all the correct connectors from old car to connect the steering wheel controls but when I removed stereo the wires for s.w.control were no where to be seen??? Is this going to be a job for the professionals? I really don't have any spare money to.pay someone can anyone help.me out??? I hate not having the steering wheel controls

What stereo did you fit? There are conversion kits but they are often specific to radio and car ..

The steering column controls connect to the head unit in the power iso connector. It works electronically through the canbus so only 2 wires for all functions, rather than 1 wire per function. You can get a conversion cable for the major manufacturers like sony jvc etc so you can retain the controls but you lose the multifunction screen.

So I have a kenwood stereo and brought the kit with patch wire for my 2001 pug206cc installed the stereo no problem with full controls, my new pug is still a 206cc but 2003 model, does this mean I will need a different kit??? I'm not worried about loosing screen I'd much rather have steering controls to stereo, if so does anyone know the kit I will need???

If youve got the same type stalks as before it will be and work exactly the same as the other type is completely different

Ignore those. It's not. Most of those videos are made by people who have no clue what they are doing!

But if you did have a 2001 it is unlikely the kit will work on the 2003. The older car probably had the long thin remote stalk: the 2003 is shorter and flatter. They use different wiring systems and not exchangable. Your newer car's original radio doesn't have a built-in screen or need a fascia adaptor either.

Sell the old style remote kit to fund some of the newer one

This is only necessary for those performing a double din conversion where the stereo is mounted on top of the dash, where the multi-function display is factory located.

The MFD frame is cut out, MFD removed and the hazard and lock switches relocated to the ash tray area.

Ask me how I know ;)

It's easily done though if this is your preferred route.
