Engine temp sensor for the ECU

Post by johnbrander »

My 2.0 ltr has been running a little rough on start up but fine once up to temp.
My basic code reader comes up with "pending code" fault intermittent misfire cylinder 1 which I know is a generic fault.
Changed coil pack, and moved plugs around after cleaning them, replaced both Lambda's- still the same with same message.
This weekend I'm planning to put new plugs in and change the temp sensor (green one).
Is there another sensor for the ECU??
Can't get it code read on PP as won't be able to drive it in the knowledge that it will probably breakdown
Any one near Warrington, Cheshire got PP that could read it for me
Will also be checking the cambelt timing position
Thanks in advance

As it's a 2001 I think (had a very quick look at your old posts) then a generic reader is rarely going to give you a true code .. it was before the EU 'forced' manufacturers to adopt EOBD so they could modify the OBD code to suit them .. there was a PP set on Facebook Marketplace last week going cheap

AFAIK the temp sender works with gauge and ECU as there is only one on a 2.0i .. in fact it might be the ECU that talks to the gauge.

Thank you for that info.
Actually sold the 2001 a few years ago and replaced it with a 2005 !!
I must agree (I think) that looking in the engine bay there only appears to be the green sensor present.
Got a few other jobs to do this afternoon and Saturday so I'll spent time trying a few things.
Don't do facebook !!! too old for it!
