i had a similar problem with my auto gearbox as well. It's like it is permanently on 'sports' mode, doesn't want to change gear, and when it changes gear, it's very rough. Took back to the dealer, and they said there's a newer version of program which can download into my car's ECU and it will then be fine. They've done the download and everything works perfectly, it is so smooth now that i can't even tell that it has changed gears. The original program is OE01, the newer program is OE02.

Well this didn't make any difference, so the car is now back at Tim Brinton for a more thorough check. I took one of the service staff out in it and he agreed that the 3rd to 2nd kick-down was terrible, with the car staying in neutral far too long so that the revs shoot up and the car lurches when it finally does engage 2nd. He & I suspect they'll have to replace the gearbox, so they have been much easier to convince than mikeya's dealer.
I am even more convinced there's a problem because the auto box on the 1.4 LX saloon they've lent me is much smoother and more responsive all round.
In reply to duncs, your problem sounds v similar to mine, roundabouts have been bad. You don't dare go for the narrow gap as you can't predict whether you'll get acceleration when you need it. Going up hill at between 25 & 30 mph is bad too, because the box decides to change down but can't so you end up coasting.
I like the predictive thing, mikeya, as apart from 3rd to 2nd kick down it does make it smoother, if you allow yourself to forget about which gear it's in at any one time.

Oh God it's a disaster
My car has now been at the dealer (Tim Brinton, Cambridge) for SIX weeks. It went in with the minor gearbox fault and is now undriveable.
They are trying to fix it electronically but every time they try to load new software on the 'ECU' and the 'BCI' (is that right?) their internet download crashes and wipes the whole lot out. They have now replaced the whole ECU twice and the BCI once at a cost to Peugeot of over £2000 (the only consolation in this for me)
Even after all this we still don't know whether in fact the fault is a mechanical one in the gearbox itself.
The service manager has now mentioned the possibility of a replacement car, but I'm not keen. It could have some other fault and mine is OK otherwise (no leaks or roof problems, so far) I don't want my money back to buy a different car as the CC is the only model that would suit my work and leisure.
The next step is apparently a direct modem link to the factory.
I sense that the dealers are really doing their best (at last they're as appalled as I am) although they weren't to begin with. The problem is that Peugeot hasn't thought through how these software faults are going to be dealt with. I'm paying the price for having all this new technology.
Those of you who are thinking of getting an automatic - BEWARE!

I got a brand new auto transmission, they had my car for 3 weeks (service).
First week: Ran some test. YES it's FAULTY
Second Week: new valve arrived from France, still FAULTY after valve installed.
Third Week: They told me they gave up on fixing my transmission, ordered a new one. Lucky for me, there was stock at Melbourne. I rang Frosty and he delivered it the next day for me
. New transmission fitted and its now working FINE.
THANK GOD....

Trung, pleased to hear about your new auto gearbox. I have a 1.6 auto also, and it is generally OK, but I did notice, and still do that it is very slow to pick up from standing, unless I put my foot right down (as instructed to do by the mechanic at the dealer's). It seems to be a characteristic of this transmission. Also, my wife has occasionally complained about sluggish down-shift when slowing in traffic and wanting to pick up again quickly. I have read something similar from others in the forum. I raised this with the dealer mechanic shortly after taking home the car, and I mentioned the newer software discussed here (may car was an April 2002 build, and thus should be up to date on software). He was reluctant to recommend playing with the software (perhaps wisely after reading the earlier horror stories), and suggested driving for 1000k as the software "adapts" to the driver he says (??). My real question is what others havew done, and also whether you still notice any of these things with your new gearbox.
Cheers!

Moush,
The very slow pick up from standing might be the 1.6 engine, not the autobox - See 1.6 hesitance and 1.6 running problems.
We are having an auto as a courtesy car for a week or so while the supplying dealer tries to sort problems with our car that our local dealer couldn't.
We will see whether we 'enjoy' the same experiences you are all having!

Well at last my car is back today. It's no better at all than when it went into the garage >6 weeks ago, but at least it's no worse and everything else seems to be working OK. Just my luck that after amazing sunshine & 32 deg heat over the weekend and today, now we've got thunderstorms! Had one burn out to a country pub this evening with the roof off and the dog in the back in his leather flying helmet (not really (that was the wife))
I shall learn to live with the lurch from 3rd to 2nd gear (by avoiding trying to accelerate too hard at 25-30 mph) and maybe pluck up courage to let them have another go in the winter.
But don't let them at your software, guys, unless it's essential

After it lurched twice on the 1.5 mile journey to work (including going into neutral on a gentle river bridge), I decided I couldn't stand it any more and made my dealer's service manager drive with me in the passenger seat. He was (at last) impressed with the problem and immediately agreed to replace the gearbox. He promises that they won't need to update the software again
Apart from this problem I really like the auto box. We have 'adapted' to each other and I can understand how it thinks - and it does behave appropriately according to how I want to drive at the time - relaxed or a bit more lively. It's has many of the advantages of a manual without the back crunching clutch work. (I speak as an ex-slipped disc sufferer)
I'll keep you posted.

I am taking delivery of a replacement car tomorrow. 9 months of trouble with this one, will see what new car and auto box is like. If it so much as hiccups once in the first month we are going for a full refund. Absolutely sick of Peugeot, abismal service from dealers and their so called customer services as well as crap cars. Trouble is, my wife likes the blinking thing!

Still waiting for new gearbox, but have noticed that I can predict whether the 3rd to 2nd gearchange will work by how the car behaves when I first put it into D. 1st thing in the morning it can take up to 5 seconds for it to start moving forwards, 3 seconds if the car is warmer. Then the 3rd to 2nd change is as awful as ever.
Occasionally, (1 trip out of 10), the D pickup is almost instantaneous, and then the 3rd to 2nd change is also perfect. This must be a mechanical problem, not software.
Just in case it helps........

Have 'adapted' to the auto box on the courtesy car we have had for nearly two weeks now, (Warwick Wright Brent Cross don't think they will let us have our manual back for at least another week!).
Got used to it know and seems to work ok.
Find it very slow to change up at times, especially after climbing a hill. Seems to wait until you have travelled at least 200 yards on the level before it does.
Going the other way. If you kick down when pulling away, it will stay at high revs for quite a while before changing up. 4 to 5000rpm in 2nd for a short distance gets some strange looks!
Conclusion - This one seems ok-ish
