S***! I've bent my exhaust :(

Hello everyone, it's been a while how are you all doing?

Has anybody else been unfortunate/stupid enough to reverse into a stationary object and bend their exhaust?
The exhaust seems to be deformed where it kinks, just in front of the rear wheels. The pipe is touching the rear skirt as it's been pushed about 2 inches to the left and about the same amount towards the front of the car.
I've been to Kwik Fit, Tyre Sales and Halfords, none of whom think they can fix it (although I'm sure they'll happily sell me a new one). My friendly neighbourhood Pug dealer has said they don't fix exhausts and if I want a new one it'll be Â£500 quid (I presume that includes VAT

).

Has anyone had any similar experiences? It seems mad to me that no-one thinks they can fix it - maybe they just can't be bothered.

Any advice or opinions would be much appreciated

i'm sure someone can do you a linking tube, but then it will depend where the kink is.

Cheers Col, I was thinking they might be able to heat it up a bit and bend it back into shape - technical I know, but if they really did put a man in the moon then surely they can straighten a metal pipe?

all they have to do is cut the pipe and weld a section onto it. get down somewhere that sells longlife zausts or powerflow. or anywhere like that really.

Â£500 !!!!! surely that must be the whole system from the down pipe right to the end. Doesn't the pug exhaust come in sections like most other cars. Isn't it possible to just replace the back box ?.

Yep, I asked them for the worst case scenario and having to give a Peugeot dealer Â£500 quid is definitely the worst case I can think of.

The highly competent and eminently trustworthy mechanic/welder who used to look after my old car is going to see if he can realign the exhaust. Even if he can't do it and I have to buy a replacement for all or part of the exhaust, I'd rather go to an exhaust specialist than give the dealer another penny.

500 quid? You can get a top Devil replacement for Â£230. Fully stainless and nice sounding. Not crumple proof though :sad:

I'm sure ther are a few older fashioned mechanics out there that would be willing to blow torch your exhaust back a few inches into shape again for a few quid.

I know of such a garage near box hill in surrey, but its probably some way from you.

Hi Pauline, I'm now Sussex based, but I still appreciate the older style mechanics who know how to tune and fix a car without having to rely on electrical tuning gadgets etc. This particular Box Hill Garage is no longer near to me but they are very good at fixing the sort of problem that Justin faces.

Cheers for all the advice guys, I hope the "old fashioned style mechanic" that's looking at it tomorrow can fix it. I do like the sound (pun intended) of a Devil exhaust but as I've just got married and I've just bought and started renovating a house I can't really justify the expense at the moment (ok, I admit it my wife won't go for it

).

Top tip though if you're unlucky, or stupid enough to do the same thing to your exhaust, a sheet of fibreglass wrapped around the end of the exhaust will stop it melting the rear plarstic skirt.

Justin, as you live in Coventry surely you can just swap your exhuast for one on a transporter parked near the factory.

I once heard of someone who smuggled an entire car out of a factory! They took it out in bits over a year!

They got caught as they were nearly finished though and were dismissed!
