I have a bit of a problem and me being a girl can't answer it. I have done nearly 8000 miles in my cc and my tyres are ok except for 1. My passenger tyre is totally bald down one side, the far side (one nearest the kerb). Theres no tread left at all, only noticed it today. Is it something I'm doing wrong as the others are all fine?? Its a strip of baldness and looks really weird!

Someone help please!
Thanks v. much
Jo :P

Hi Jo

sounds to me like your tracking (or wheel alignment is out), when you get the new tyre you will have to get that doone too other wise you'll be paying for a new tyre again.

col - thanks very much

Will they put the tracking right when they put a wheel on or will I have to ask for that seperately??

Cheers 8)

Sounds like racing driver syndrome to me.

Races go clockwise round the circuits and so there are more right corners than left and the left front takes far more wear than the rest.

I think you have some weekend activities you are not telling us about!

you will have to ask

most places like Kwik-Fit will do the check for free, you only pay if it needs doing.

ask them to show you why it is out, pretend you need to explain to your boyfriend/husband as it is their car ;) . That way they wont take advantage of a female.

    @ Adrian, oops my secrets out now!!! ;) ;)

Thanks Rob, will ask at local kwik fit - they know me there as I broke down right outside last month for about 3 hours due to a snapped earth wire in the bonnet!

My brother says a bad clip on a kerb cud have knocked my tracking out, sounds pretty likely to me knowing my driving!

you clipped a kerb

if you clib a kerb or hit a biggish pot hole in the road then you should go and get the tracking re checked. Saves you £££££'s

JO, STOP DRIVING THAT FAT PERSON AROUND IN THE PASSENGER SEAT!

(Its probably the tracking, it can get thrown out if you go over a particularly bad bump/pothole/recessed manhole cover in the road )

defo sounds like tracking. when travelling in a straight line does the steering wheel point straight? its only about 15quid for tracking and well worth it. make sure its lazer tracking.

I dont think it is the tracking.
If the tracking gets knocked out then you compensate with the steering wheel (otherwise the car keeps turning in the direction of the misaligned wheel). Obviously you notice that steering wheel is not in the straight on position when you are going straight ahead, and as a result both front tyres will wear out.
I think it is more likely to be the camber angle thats out.
