Rip off Oil Change?

Just booked my (or should that be the wifes

cc) in for an oil change as the car has just reached 12 months - Camden Motors, Bedford.

Asked the price

88 QUID

Surely this is a complete rip off.

Yep a definate rip-off.
Are you sure they're not doing anything else?
If you only want an oil and filter change why not halfords or kwik fit? You'll get decent oil and filter, and it wont have any effect on yor warranty (i think)

Have you tried Tim Brinton at St Neots? Was told by another 206 owner that their servicing is cheaper and its only 15 minutes up the road and they should be able to do an oil and filter change while you wait.

Where r u in Bedford? Although now CC-less, there is a good chance will see you about.

That's got to be an oil change with fully synthetic ??

I had one today at my 30K service and paid around Â£90 for the priviledge, but it .is fully synthetic oil.

I think even Magnatec will only cost about Â£25 or so. Add on the cost of the filter and a container for the old oil and you can do it yourself for a lot less than half of that Â£90...

Halfords quoted me Â£35 quid for an oil and filter change (on my 1.6cc, using GTX Magnatec). Not sure what it would do to my warranty though so I haven't done it yet.

As long as you use the manufacturer's recommended oil (or equivalent) then it will do nothing to your warranty.

This discussion has come up before and it's like asking if your choice of tyres / petrol / brake pads etc will affect the warranty. The answer's "no" unless you go against the manufacturer's guidelines.

As I said - or equivalent.

For example, if they recommend semi/s SAE 5W/40 then using any semi/s 5W/40 will not invalidate the warranty, as long as the oil itself conforms to the relevant standards.

I've used Magnatec and can highly recommend it !. as for the warranty issue it doesn't invalidate your warranty accordign to all info I've heard/seen. But in anycase does anyone seriosly think that peugeot are going to do an engine oil analysis everytime you make a warranty claim ?

Of course not - if they did an engine oil analysis everytime one of us made a warranty claim they'd need a permanent lab technician at every dealer!

What I assume they can quite easily tell though is if you're using the same type of oil filter as they fit, I just wouldn't put anything past them - In my experience, if they can find an excuse not to help you they will.

Changing your oil filter shouldn't invalidate your warranty - neither should changing your air filter - as long as they meet (or exceed) the manufacturer's guidelines.

Has anyone actually asked their dealer?

By the way - I changed my oil and air filter at about 25k on my Fiesta. No mention was made of them when my 30k service came around...

They put Ultron in mine, they tried to talk me in to semi-synth but you can't beat fully synthetic especially if you give the car some welly.

I was charged Â£38.50 for the oil, Â£7.50 for the filter, Â£.68 for a sump plug and I am not sure how much for labour, all plus vat.
I've done many oil changes before - yes, easy, but getting rid of it is a nightmare (and it's carcinogenic).Personally I'd rather they got their hands dirty, covered their garage in oil, and more importantly enough - disposed of the stuff. It's not cheap, but it can only help engine wear, this was the cars fifth oil change, the first 3 every 5k miles, and every 10k since I'm using fully synthetic.
