( Top up of course... ) Ok so I know there is a great deal of joy to be had waxing and polishing but it's getting colder outside and my father refuses to wash my car more than twice a week! < what it is to have an unfeeling family!! >
So I was thinking about taking my car to a drive in carwash. My immediate thought was for the leak - I can live with this though. The next was for the arial, which - unless I've missed something - is neither retractable nor removeable.
So does anyone else go the carwash route and how do you do it if you do? Ever had problems with leaks or with arial damage?

they will destroy your paintwork!!!! Please if u value your car and its too cold to wash it take it to a HAND car wash place that do it for u for a fiver.
Dont do it, erm is right, forget about the leaks, you can dry them out, but.... how would you get the scratches out from the brushes?, i would say don´t do it...
You could always use the jet wash instead, just don't use any brushes that could've been left lying around on the floor in grit and gravel and dirt.
Another idea - my local fire station ( ) are having a car wash day this weekend. It's worth it, only a fiver, but I give them a new sponge and make sure it's fresh water in their bucket! I try to inspect other bits as well but they always refuse... :rolleyes: See you there Julia!
jet wash is good but doesn't do much for the wheels. take erm's advice - i will never use a drive thru car wash again for the exact reasons erm states and haven't done for a few years.
normallyi would just leave the car dirty rather than use the car wash but the CC demands i do it once a week - i'm not silly enough to do it anymore than that, although i do dry the wheels with spamspam towel
as for the ariel - it unscrews - not that you should need to do that now

other than this wash your car by hand. I find it gets a bit chilly and I have 3 cars to wash at least once a week. I use marigold (etc) rubber gloves. My neighbours used to giggle. Now they also use them in winter.
This year I am having a special setup so that I get hot water to my outside tap as well.
its only a few pounds to spend, but is a lot less than repairing the damage a car wash will do to your paint work.

I had my cc supaguarded when I bought it (after reading the very useful advice on this forum!) and since then have managed to keep it immaculate with a once a week jetwash and leather.
A sponge and soapy water takes care of the wheels.
Total wash time about 20 minutes.
Now what it's going to be like in the winter months I don't know. But I'd let it stay dirty rather than risk a car wash.
Best advice I can give is get a good chamois leather, and look after it. The cheap ones don't soak up the water and leave smears behind. (On a black cc you can see every speck!)

the drive thiorugh may sratch ya paint work slightky but when u come to sell it they wont even notice. i do it. with a good polish you wont even notice the marks. and if u are trading it in they wont even be looking for things like that. chill.
hehe each and to their own i suppose. however i dont use any car wash. i use the arc washes. they are pretty good. also you have to take into concideration that the quality of the paint ford uses isnt that good so they will mark more. anyway i wasnt havinga goi just dont see the harm every now and then when i am feeling lazy
I use the local ARC car wash - Much easier and they get my wheels done perfectly...
Its either that or leave the grime on the car for a month until I can be assed to get out and wash it... Im not sure whats worse ? stuck on grime or car wash..
Anyway - I diddnt hear anyone comment on my "swirls" at the meet. a polish will clear it up no problem.
