Disabling BSI

ok just got back from the peugeot dealer, requesting him to disable my headunit from the bsi...how much should the guy charge me, coz he said $50 to do it, and i think thats a bit too much for it.....anyone hav a idea wat i should do?

its something that has sparked a bit of debate around here. I have my head unit fitted now for several months, have not disabled anything in the BSI (didn't know you had to) and I've had no problems with anything.

I have come to the following conclusion:

The ECUs let the computer know if there is a fault with whatever it is they're controlling. The roof ECU lets it know if there's a fault with the roof, for example.

The radio ECU lets it know if there's a problem with the Clarion. If there's no Clarion installed, there can't be a fault with it.

The question is - will the computer interpret a missing radio as a faulty radio? If it does, the ECU for the radio needs to be disabled. If not, it's ok to leave it enabled.

Yes it DOES

I have already said that hundreds of times. The BSI (when this option is enabled) tries to find the factory HU and check if it's operational. These are taking place using some electrical signals between BSI and factory HU. Now, If you deinstall the factory unit and a) don't disable the HU check by BSI, and b) don't install the adaptor recommended by Peugeot, which isolates all electrical signals of the new aftermarket unit to be sent to BSI, then you may have problems with the BSI itself or more likely will cause some serious incidents like: the stop starts flashing when you drive, or the most dangerous, all signals to get crazy and and stop the engine while you're moving with speed

Don't take these for granted because I have heard these to happen.

Waste of time. They haven't got a clue. And the adapter is completely useless as well. I still had to change a couple of wires around on it.
