Squeaky Brakes

Thought it was normal (although incredibly annoying! only had the car a couple of days) until I just read all the replies to the CC survey, has anyone found a solution to the squeaky brakes? Unfortunately I have it on my boyfriends Focus ST170 too (although totally irelevant), and have been pacified by both Ford and Peugoet that it is dust...obviously not!

it is actully brake dust. the brakes squeeked on my festa (drums) and the pug. it seems to have gone away for now though thank god.

after 8k miles of silence, my squeaky brakes came back a few weeks ago - b****y annoying not to mention embarrassing !

Mine only lasted 2500 miles and now they have started to squeak

Can't believe it's brake dust..... I mean, it might be, but if it is it shouldn't be happening like this. Personally I believe a poor asbestos replacement is being used.

I've had 3 brand new peugeots, both did over 35,000 miles and never once had this problem.

My 206cc was at 4000 miles when this first started and since then I needed it looking at 3 times. I had to fork ou6t for the cost on one occasion and they squealed on the way homen from the dealer.

There's definately something fudamentally wrong with them. It's just started happening again on my car at 14000 miles.

So embarrassing to be driving down a city centre street and to have people looking at you squealing past! Not a good advertisment for an otherwise brilliant car!

Hey! At least my roof doesn't leak!

try some different brake pads. performance hard waring pads maybe. they produc less brake dust.

Had sqeaky brakes aswell. My dealer replaced the pads (bosch ?) and they have been OK for a month or so. Just have to wait and see if it last.

the reason for the squeak is that the brake pad surface become's glazed after distance (caused by dust) nothing you can do, unless you go for grooved disks.. because part of the reason for the grove is that it knocks the glaze off.

Just been told by my friendly local monkeyman that Pug are currently investigating new materials to stop the squeaking. There's no known permanent cure at the moment though.

The squeaky brakes have become too much now and the fan belt has decided to join in out of sympathy I think, so I have got my car booked into the dealer next week, although I was told at the service desk by a rather over honest man that Peugeot don't like paying for work on squeaky brakes under the warranty because there is no permanent cure and the quick fixes are all really expensive, but he is going to see what he can do! Keep you posted...

To me, whether or not something should be covered by warranty shouldn't be determined by 'a permanent fix'. It should be fixed if it shouldn't break in that way.

Squeaky brakes are unnacceptable.
The only people I know who drive cars with brakes that squeal (other than my brand new pug) are people who drive cars that are more than 7 years old.

I don;t know anyone who drives a new car that has ever had anything like some of the 206cc drivers have had to put up with.

Mine have been fixed twice and still squeal.

I hate the noise so much that I sometimes take my foot off the brake and re-apply. Not safe if you are slowing due to a problem ahead in the road. It's an automatic reaction though when something sounds wrong.

It should be fixed under warranty whenever it appears again.

Problem is, TECHNICALLY there isn't a problem.

Warranty repairs are only carried out if something on the car is deemed faulty.

The brakes stop the car, so Peugeot don't admit the squeak as being a warranty repair.

If your dealer looks at them and (attempts to) repair the problem, they do so off their own back - they get no money from Peugot UK.
