Nice setup

all free from kenwood

so what are the 7.1 speakers, how many front ,rear speakers etc etc

7.1 THX EX., DTS-ES Surround, (one generation better than AC-3, Dolby Digital & DTS)

two front speakers

two surround speakers

two surround back speakers

one centre speaker

and a 10" active sub

There are only a small number of DVDs recorded in 7.1 surround. But the audio is FAB.

You can play normal DVDs (5.1) and the receiver converts the signal to 7.1

What, no center rear speaker? How primitive

Center Rear Speaker is for 6.1 only. The Center back is only a MONO source.

With 2 surround back speakers, it's the same as one Center Rear Speaker. But the audio is in STEREO.

Most 6.1 receiver has terminal for one center back speaker and also RCA outputs for Surround BACK Speakers. You will need an additional 2 channels amp to drive the two surround back speakers. Hence 7.1 channel.
