After hearing about the success of members treating their creaks with silicon I thought I would try the same so I can have my radio on at resonable volume - instead of loud to drown out those darn roof creaks.

1). Can any advise if the silicon spray is friendly to rubber and not corrosive, and perhaps the name and outlet where I can obtain it (Rob, did autoglymn fix it for you?).

2).Do members think there is much risk of Peugeot getting on their high horse if they found out at my six month service that I had attempted to fix the problem myself i.e. could they suggest this may infringe the warranty?

Thought I'd be safe before trying this one out as from what members have said, the product seems to work.

Ta, Robbie.

Q1. I use a silicon spray as a lubricant on my scuba diving equipment. That stands up to loads of wear and tear and I trust it with my life at 50m below. I will say after years of use it can eventually causes problems , but i do mean years. (no jokes about rubber and lubricants thankyou)

The rubber seal is much more likley to photodegrade in sunlight.

Q2. Peugeot are unlikely to be able to 'prove' a problem if you ever had one.

When collecting my CC the other day I spoke to one of the mechanics and he said as a matter of course they spray the seals with silicon as part of pre-delivery.

Ta for the advice, I'll make sure I use lots of lubricant on my rubbers!

(sorry Freedive, I tried and I tried, honest, but I just couldn't resist it!)

Oh, so you're the guy who's awake at 3.00am in the morning thinking about lubricated rubber!

Julia, yes it was definitely worth the wait. I love the car - no disappointment at all. It's rained here the past few nights and no leaks, so looks ok so far. A noise has developed when the roof closes, seems to be something slightly hitting the rear window. Doesn't sound like anything is self destructing, will take it in next week for a check.

The only fault I can find in the car is the sound system. Looking into beefing it up a little.

All in all a very happy ownber. As Lyndon said I've sent him some pictures, so keep an eye out.

Glad to now be a official member of the family

I think it's been mentioned a few times that Rubber & Nylon lubricant from Halfords is a good one. I have just been and got one, its in a bright yellow can, and cost £4.

Oh yeah and to save you time finding the damn thing, head straight for the fuel treatment and additives section

Thanks col, i'll ty it.I too have spent many aimless minutes/hours /days wandering around Halfords looking for the right item.

Freedive, yep, you've discovered I'm a bit of a night owl - and the rubbers - best to say no comment

BTW don't follow the instructions on the can and apply directly, spray onto a cloth and apply. DOn't want your interior to end up like mine with spray residue everywhere!!!

I tried the silicone stuff from halfords in the yellow can, and it's now dead quiet inside. I'd recomend it to all, just be careful where you point your nozzle, if you get that stuff on your interior, it doesn't half stain. Still it doesn't matter, I'm getting my replacement CC on Saturday, I'll be a lot more carefull where I spray that one.

Thanks to all about the important cautionary note when spraying. I'll make sure I'm very careful where I apply my lubricant! (don't want to go staining things).

Robbie.
