best one asset? hmm is it my DIY skills, or my health and safety awareness? you, the readers, can decide!
2 weeks into my new house i was sanding the bedroom floor. not a bad job, so i then lifted a floorboard to test the colour stain, thinking if i didn't like it i could just turn the board over. problem is, i didn't replace the floorboard straightaway. i was doing some last-minute sanding, stepped back, and....
...hey presto! put my foot through the hole in the bedroom floor.
AND through into the lounge ceiling. which meant i had -another- job to do - plastering the lounge.
half an hour later my foot felt sore, so went to the doc, who advised i went to accident & emergency just to be sure. a four-hour wait later, and the x-ray showed i'd fractured 2 bones in my foot!
a couple of weeks later i was up a ladder in the lounge, plastering the lounge ceiling after, uh, putting my foot in it. i managed to lose my footing, and in the process of falling off the ladder, fractured a finger!
so perhaps DIY proficiency might not be my best asset. health and safety is now, though!
