Squeaky Brakes

A main cause of brake squeal is the brake pads glazing over. Part of the function of grooved discs is to deglaze the pads, hence reducing/stopping the squeal. Another function is to expel gases built up under braking which cause brake fade, hence improving braking performance.
Pug are extremely unlikely to fit them under warranty because they're not an original part.

The only other thing they can do is what I've been told they are doing. That is to investigate new materials for the brake pads - they need to find one that doesn't glaze over as easily.

Varies depending on manufacturer and type of disc (drilled, grooved or combi). I'd imagine around £60-£80 per pair for rear discs and around £120-£150 for front discs.

My brakes have been looked at and fixed twice due to squeal problems.
They started squealing again after each 'operation' within a week.
This is a serious problem.
(a) People actually look towards the car when I brake as the squeal is that obvious and bad.
(b) Every passenger I give a lift to comments about it.
(c) I as a driver am very uncomfortable and embarrassed about it.
and Importantly
(D) I HAVE CHANGED THE WAY I BRAKE AND STOP THE CAR. EVEN IN EMERGENCIES I HAVE FOUND THAT I DON'T USE THE MAXIUM BRAKING POTENTIAL OF THE CAR. I HAVE STARTED BRAKING IN A WAY WHICH MINIMIZES NOISE AND ON OCCASIONS HAVE STEERED AROUND OBSTACLES WHEN STOPPING WOULD HAVE BEEN SAFER.
I think its really important for peugeot to note that this is not a problem with a noisy roof, or dodgy sound system. It's not a problem with a sticky window or faulty display... THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A MAJOR SAFETY FEATURE OF THE CAR. It needs to be fixed. I'm dreading my next service, when I have to go through the problems of arguing over costs and responsibility for the repairs needed.
Why should I have to pay to have a problem like this dealt with?! I didn't see 'squeaky brakes' on the features list for the 206cc !
I'm really cross about it.
Can't watchdog help? How many people have this problem... there must be enough for a full on assault.

when i had a problem with my brakes squeaking all the time, not when braking, i had it the dealer 5 times and they still could not stop it.
Evetually i phoned PUG UK and asked if they wanted my sons blood on their hands when I had an accident due to the brakes not being fixed after 4 times at the dealer!
you should have heard the apologies and the instant response....
if my dealer did not fix it within a week they would revoke the dealership!!!
what a quick phone call to the right people can do!

i'm gonna phone my dealer to book my car in for mid february while i'm on holiday to get the loose carpet fixed that has been like that since i bought it last march.
they will also be told to fix the brakes again too - it would be silly of them to refuse
