Tuning ideas for a beginner

I have no prior knowledge and have only learnt by reading since getting the CC in March so can anyone recommend some basic tuning to get me started, the only thing i've looked into so far is the induction kit and will probably invest in one shortly but apart from that i have no other idas and help at all would be great

what are you after ?
to be honest from what I've read up on .. once you've gone the zuast, air intake route theres not much more to do before the engine gets ropey

I'm not really an expert either, but I did a bit of investigating when I got my 2 litre CC and came to the conclusion there's not a great deal to do unless you a) had a fair amount of money and b) where happy to forego your warranty.

A sealed induction kit is probably the first thing to go for, but as many people have said, make sure it's a decent quality one that sucks in air from outside the engine bay or you'll lose power. Looking at about 300 quid I think for an ITG Maxogen filter.

Exhaust - you can get a noticeable power increase by getting a custom exhaust fitted (wider pipe, bigger tailpipe etc) and removing the cat. However, removing the cat will probably make your CC fail an MOT because of emissions.

Superchip - These are pre-programmed for the CC engine. They're not cheap (about 400 quid) and according to a few people I've asked don't really do much for the money.

Custom re-map - This involves getting someone to tweak your existing ECU to make the engine go faster! I don't really know what's involved here but it will take into account any other engine mods you've had done such as induction kit.

Then you get to the serious engine mods such as strapping a turbo to it, getting new cams, throttle bodies, Nitrous injection etc which I also know bugger all about. What I do know though is that the GTi engine block isn't as strong as it could be, and any power enhancing mods run the risk of blowing the engine unless you somehow strengthen it - and for that money you might as well just go out & buy a CTR or something!

When I sold my CC I was looking for something cheap to rnu but also cheap and highly moddable, which is why I got the HDi. As standard they're 90BHP but for not much omre than Â£1000 they can be upped to 150-160BHP (someone has a 206 with the same engine rolling roaded at 160BHP). Of course, when you get that much increase you also have to look at an uprated clutch, uprated brakes, suspension etc etc etc which also puts the price up.

u may even find it hard to find any1 to remove your cat. a superchip wouldnt be 400 quid for the cc. i think u are thinking of chips that can be re-programmed. superchips cant be re-programmed. (as far as i know).

if you get a filter and a zaust you wont notice much difference tbh. but it will sound nice.

I looked at major engine upgrades .... basically 3 options :

1) Eccosee GTI6 engine transfer
2) SuperCharger conversion
3) Turbo Conversion ..

In the end if you went for these you'd need to spend much more uprating everything else as well .... hence do what i did and buy a supra

Ah yep, Superchip's website quote Â£293.75 including fitting and VAT which means you would probably find them a bit cheaper if you shopped around the dealers. They claim it'll give you an extra 10BHP, but I've spoken to one or two people who have had them fitted and say it makes little difference.

I'm probably thinking of a dastek unichip wihch is reprogrammable. Dealers usually charge an hourly rate for programming these.

As for decatting, you might be able to get a powerflow dealer to do the work. I took my HDi in to one recently to get it decatted and they had no problem and quoted 70 quid. However, after looking at the exhaust system beforehand I saw that it was starting to go at the backbox as well so just got a full stainless steel system fitted.

...and look, Pazuzu has even had all those mods tattooed on his left arm in case anyone in the pub asks him and he can't remember them all...what a good idea!

the guy who did the remap told me it made 175 bhp on the rollers, but i dont belive him! That was before i fitted decat and the straight true backbox..

but im guessing its making about 170 now.. but like i said i have no idea..
