Went shopping yesterday with my girlfriend. When she was looking for clothes I thought I would pop in WHSMITH and have a read of the car mags. On Whatcar there was a test of :-
2.0SE CC
1.8 Mazda
1.8 MG
It was quite an intersting read.
The Mazda came first with 4/5 then its was the CC 2nd 3/5 and last was the MG which was given 2/5.
The article did say that in any individual gear then the CC was slowest. However, the gear ratios were such that going up through the gears gave better results than in the other cars. The Mazda was particularly criticised for it's poor selection of gear ratios. The article then went on to slate the feel of the 206 gears and praise the Mazda's.
Oddly, one of the main criticisms was that the seats in the 206 were uncomfortable. It specifically said there was no height adjustment. Having failed to find the height adjustment probably explains why the tester was uncomfortable.

I do agree with the remark about the gears feeling bad in use, my gear change feels really "clunky". I have often had to select 2nd before it would go smoothly into reverse and I sometimes have to apply a significant amount of force to go into second when changing down. As for changing into 1st while the vehicle's moving slowly, I know it's not recommended that you do this but I've tried it once and it just won't go in at all - what do you reckon, safety feature or misaligned transmission?
i would get your gearbox checked out, mines is fine. people who have driven any of the 7 peugeots i have owned have all remarked how easy the gears are compared to whatever car they drive.
