Right, I agree with Riss entirely!
Its not easy being a teacher and a mother to 30 kids all day - cos really thats what you are. No-one will ever understand unless they do they job. This holiday I have taken to mainly chill out and get my head sorted, probably spent about 2 weeks worth of it doing work though.
As for CB's comment about not going on strike and us loving children well I would go on strike but only for some reasons, not over pay.
My two main gripes are:
1) People do not realise when you work with difficult kids that you sometimes get hit, kicked punched and have chairs thrown at you, yes even by 7 and 8 year olds and it still hurts when theyre mad. And you are expected to put up with it, many times the parents will not believe what their child can be capable of.
2) Abusive parents, again my first parents evening was the most petrifying thing I've probably ever done. I have been threatened 3 times in the last 3 years.
I wouldn't say I love kids. I have a respect for them and sometimes I'll even let one of them get to me, I like it when they want to learn. No matter what ability if they try that's all I can hope for. I dont like kids outside of school, or rather I dont like to see what some kids get away with in front of thier parents. I'm not saying they should be 'seen and not heard' but if my class leaves having learnt nothing else but their manners and how to be nice to each other I'm happy even if Estelle bloody Morris isn't.
Rant over, not gonna get into arguements but it's not an easy job. Just like it's not fair on me to judge what other people do. I'd love a 9 to 5 where you didn't even have to think about work when you left, let alone carry on with it until you go to bed, but then the money isn't as good. There are pros and cons to it all. If it were not for the holidays I'd have quit by now as you spend most of the holiday catching up on stuff you've not managed to do during term time.
A teacher is never up to date eh Riss?
Never be a teacher!

Dunno about primary vanda, but certainly secondary it is POSIIBLE once you've been doing it a few years, and have stacks of lesson plans etc to put few hours in, take over 30 K a year and have 3 times as much holiday as everyone else. Lots of teachers in my family, and although they dont seem like that, they have lots of tales about people who are!

I agree entirely with Riss and Vanda - for the next stage in my career I am gearing towards instructor duties for my trade in the military. The Movements School is based here at Brize Norton and a lot of my friends are instructors. I have witnessed first hand how many extra hours they have to put in just to stay "one step ahead" and it eats into their boozing time certainly. My personal feeling is that you have to have a certain love for this kind of work (to be any good at it) and if you haven't, leave and get a job in Woolworths.
So, in summary, more power to Miss Riss and Vanda!
(can i still have a spanking though ladies??

:blush-thx: Yeah it's not the easiest job in the world, and if they'd shown us the real thing when at Uni I think I would prob be working in a bank right now, but I'd be bored STUPID!!!!
There are ups and downs (last year was full of downs with the class from hell - along with the kicking, punching and chair throwing mentioned above), but agreeing with Vanda, if kids leave me knowing how to speak to adults and each other with some respect, I'm happy!!
And yeah, we are NEVER ahead of ourselves, no matter how hard we try!!! Am off in to school again today to try and get sorted
Plus I could never be a secondary teacher, would be bored silly teaching the same thing over and over again to kids that don't have any respect and are too old to learn any different! (Plus I wouldn't be able to play with glitter, paint and clay every now and then

Also going by my school days I was no angel......
I would have hated to have been the science teacher who walked out of every lesson with crocodile clips on the back of their jacket, or the maths teacher who had flicked ink on their blouse or the geography teacher we locked out the classroom, oh and not forgetting the PE teacher who had a nervous breakdown!
I am on your side Girlies!
