Me again!
This sound system business isnt easy!
Anyone know of any nice looking sony cd headunits? I was gonna go for Kenwood KDC-M6024G but obviously this isnt compatible with the stalk and display. I think the Sony CDXMP40 is the closest

Thanx again xxx

Personally I'm not a fan of Sony which is why I went for Kenwood. Losing the stalk and display functionality was a sacrifice I was willing to make for the sound quality. I believe that Erm has a Sony system so could probably suggest what's best to go for.

Where are you buying from? You may want to check these sites for available models (if you haven't done so already!):

I'd avoid Sony gear. They make great house hifi but as for cars they aren't so hot in my experience.

I had a headunit that went straight back and my mate has had problems with 3 headunits and one multichanger.

They also have a bit of a look that would be attractive to 17 year olds!

I'd go for kenwoods (i hate the Pioneers with the cheesy dolphins on screen) as i've never had problems with them. I think they now do wiring adaptors.

It's a shame you can't get wiring adaptors for Alpines as they look proper classy without all the flashy lights that spotty 17 year olds like!

Dunno what they have in Ferraris these days but they'd certainly suit one! Sp if they are good enough for Ferrari they're good enough for a Pug!

Yep, when (and if!) my trusty Kenwood headunit finally becomes old/broken/obsolete, I'll probably go for Alpine. Quality without the gimmicks!

I'm pretty sure that Kenwood don't - there were rumours a while back but nothing seems to have come from it.

The problem with the CC is that it uses this new-fangled multiplex thing, whereby all the car's functions are effectively controlled by a single communication wire. Integrating the existing display & stalk would mean devising some electronics to intercept the messages on this control "bus" and adding its own messages in.

I've just e-mailed the guys at http://www.justkenwood.co.uk to see if they have an update on an availability of such adapters. I'll let you know when I get a response.

Well I never missed not having the radio using the display. It would be nice to have had the stalk working, but for many new headunits you can buy steering remote controls anyway that work via infra-red etc. Kenwood have such a control: http://www.justkenwood.co.uk/other.asp

Just had a look in my latest Kenwood catalogue and it does say they have adaptors for 206's but it doesn't mention anything about multiplexed cars though....they've got to do them sooner or later.

Just got a reply back from Just Kenwood:
Thanks for your interest in our products.

Display adaptors for multiplexed vehicles wiring systems are currently under development (we have just heard a Renault model is about to be launched).

As yet, we have no news on anything for a Peugeot - as soon as something is available, we shall feature it on our website.

Bloody typical, I knew I'd jinxed myself - my Kenwood headunit died this morning!!!

Think it's fixable if I can get the spare part I need - some silly bit of plastic has snapped so the front removable fascia keeps falling off the headnuit! VERY annoying!

Well I'm tryig a few places to get a replacement bit of plastic.. cheapre paying a few £ to fix it rather than £350 for a new headunit!
