When I pull out in first gear from still, I hear the engine's normal noise but after a bit (accelerating in 1st gear) I hear a sort of "growling" noise coming from the back area of the car. I can't understand if it's something rattling in the boot (I checked though, and there wasn't anything loose) or something worse than that! I thought of the exhaust but the nise is only made when accelerating in 1st gear......
It's a 1.6.

Any ideas?

It might have to be a trip @ the zoo I fear....

What RPM range does it happen in?

I would guess some kind of physical rattle - ie like a slightly loose exhaust that only rattles at a certain RPM. If this is the case then it should also make the noise at the same RPM in second, third etc...

I'll double check today going back home to see @ what RPM it makes the noise, although I'm pretty sure it only does it in 1st gear!

The noise has disappeared!
Must have been something rattling in the boot although to be honest I checked and everything was firmly held in place

I've just started noticing a growling noise at about 2900rpm - so is this something to worry about or get used to???

Just because you're paranoid, it don't mean they're not after you.
