Rear tailgate lock ...

My rear tailgate hasn't been locking with the central system....not sure how long this has been for (!) and grateful I've not lost my suitcase. I took the old motor out and discovered the push rod was bent so replaced it with a new one, but this still doesn't work. I can still lock it manually. Any ideas? :?
