was there last july, hadnt been back there for quite a few years and I'd forgotten how FANTASTIC that town is! I'd suggest you wonder off the beaten tourist paths for a while as well, and you'll see that every corner is so romantic and inspiring it's almost surreal! Other suggestion: visit the island of Murano (you can get there with the normal "boat-bus" from piazza San Marco. There are lots of glass foundries there, and if you shop around, you can find real bargains on blown glass objects, that would cost you more than twice anywhere else! Barter on the price as well! enjoy my country!

dont go looking for a drink after closing time - the after hours bars near St Marks Square can cost as much as £25 for a single beer.
Try the ice creams - some o the better ones I have had in Italy (been there twice this year alone)
If you want a snack look at where the locals are eating - usually a small kiosk window - great food and cheap. If you go inside siting down costs more to eat than standing.
Other than that, you may be suprised at just how big the place is, not the tiny island that you are led to believe on the TV - ENJOY

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice. We just got back and I must admit I had a fantastic time. You're corrcet about the prices of tourist places - getting drunk in Venice is like trying to get a Peugeot mechanic to fix your car, almost impossible unless you're willing to pay lots of money! However, we had a good time on new years eve in St Mark's square watching people chuck fireworks around. Great fun!
We only had 3 days there and I reckon we could have done with 3 weeks to take in everything!
Photos to come soon
