Catalytic converter and antipollution fault

Hi all,

Quite new to all this but having a bit of a problem with my 2.0 CC and not getting too many answers for dealer. Over the last couple of months I keep getting a Catalytic converter and an anti-pollution fault coming up on the dash and also the engine diagnostic light coming on. When it first happened I was told by the "engineers" at my local Peugeot dealership that all it was needing was an upgrade on the software for the onboard computer. It was booked in and upgrade was completed but a few day later fault came in again. Back to dealer and they told me this time it needed new ignition coils. These were fitted and a few days later the fault was back in. It is now booked back in to get new Hydraulic tappets fitted. I think they are just guessing and hoping to fall on the answer.
When the diagnostic light is on the car drive likes driving through glue.
Has anyone else had this problem on the 2.0?? I have noticed some people posting about getting it on the 1.6 but none for the 2.0.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I had this problem on my old 206GTi (so same engine as the CC). This was an "02" plate car from April 2002. Got the Catalytic Converter / Antipollution Fault after about 18 months just before Christmas.

Took the car into the dealers and they put the new software on the engine management system computer and all was fine - in fact, the car ran a lot better with the new software on.

Maybe I was lucky that I got no further problems on the GTi. Didn't stop me swapping to a CC though - no regrets on that front

Have a look on the Peugeot Sports club forum (GTi-180 section at the bottom) coz a few of the guys with GTi 180's seem to be getting the anti pollution fault from time to time..

I am sure I remember reading somewhere that some dealers tried to blame this problem on using supermarket petrol.

Amazing that they try this one - given the market share that the supermarkets have when it comes to petrol / diesel.

Thanks for the information. I will check out the Peugeot Sports club forum. As for them blaming it on the petrol from supermarkets, I would love them to say that when I take it back in. The petrol stations in all of Scotland and the North of England all comes from my local BP refinery at Grangemouth so that excuse is just fabricated.
