I mentioned to the people at motorpoint several times that there was a flashing spanner on the tachometer. They said it would disappear after a few miles. So I believed them as I don't have a book with the car yet so I cannot check.
Well 21.5 miles and all going well, then suddenly no power. As it was new and I had not filled it up as the computer monitor said I had 34 miles left and the fuel dial was not at zero, I thought maybe it is out of petrol so I called a mate to get some. Then when I tried to start it again I could not get it started. I eventually got the AA to come and the guy thought maybe it was some water got into the enginge so we took all the spark plugs out, but no water appeared on cranking it over. The starter motor was burned out and I had hardly ised it. he then towed me to mine and I tried to jump start it. Not a hope so it was more than just a broken starter motor. The AA bloke was very confused and wants me to contact him when I know what is going on. They towed it to the peugeot dealer who were not really interested and as it was an import. No courtesy car etc.
I contacted motorpoint and eventually managed to speak to one of the managers, he was very helpful. wants to know what peugeot says on monday, and said I could hire a car in the meantime. As I need to be mobile during the Xmas period. At the moment I am not too p***** **f as I would have had to wait ages to get a Blue car and the problem will either be a really simple one, or a completely f***** engine and that can be replaced. Anything inbetween and I will be p***** **f. Then I will go for blood.

I'll let you all know how it gets on and what it was.

They think it is the battery shorting out through the starter motor. Roll on Friday when they think they will have one in stock to check it out. Life just isn't the same in a Fiesta.

I have a solid spanner on my display by the mileage (but not flashing), anyone know what it means please?

The solid spanner comes on 500 miles before the car is due for a scheduled service..

The service "countdown" clock can be set too 10,000 or 20,000 mile intervals

What a surprise the starter motor has not arrived and as the UK has none in stock it is coming from France. They say hopefully 2nd Jan 2002. But I don't think I will hold my breath. Peugeot seem to live up to one of the french peoples favorite dish (L'escargot). Luckily Motorpoint have allowed me to keep the hire car so I am still mobile. More than the nice peugeot dealers seem to do to all their recall customers.
I didn't realise that the starter motor was specific to the 206cc I thought the engine was the same as the 206GTI, unfortunately not so if anything goes wrong peugreot will have to probably order the part from Frog Land and I bet they don't manage to give people a courtesy car.
I await the 2nd and hopefully they will the car working.
