Hi all. There's a topic for leaks, can we have one for squeaks please?.

After months of viewing this excellent website, I've finally bought a 206cc 2.0SE Aluminium leather etc etc. After 4 weeks I've been lucky enough to have almost ZERO problems (thanks partly to this website).

I spent £8.50 on a small tube of silicone gel and I've lubed all the important seals (taking care not to put any where the glass goes) including all the roof seals, doors, boot, fuse box cover, steering wheel housing, rubber seal at the base of the steering wheel - you name it I've lubed it (now now!!!)

Anyway, I'm leak free but NOT squeak free!!!

With the roof UP and catches locked there are NO squeaks, Nil, Zilch. Lovely to drive, quiet as any car with a fixed roof.

However, with the roof down I get an annoying squeak from the front driver console. I've experimented, and found that with the roof up, but the driver side roof catch un-done I get the squeak. As soon as I close the catch the squeak stops.

I've checked the roof catches and the doors and I'm certain it's none of these. I think it might be where the glass joins the inside of the dash (where you can barely get your hands). I've sprayed WD40 all along the bottom of the windscreen but the squeak persists.

PLEASE HELP!! I've scoured this website and the Internet and can't find anyone with a similar squeak!

Don't think you'll ever be squeak free.

Thanks for the reply Eddy, it's just if I knew that other cc owners get a squeak with the roof down and "thats the small price you pay for turning people into rubber necks" then thats a bit better.

It's just no one else seems to mention this.

By the way, with the music at level 22 (25 is a bit too loud) you can't hear the squeak. It's just when E'r indoors comes for a spin she likes to talk and that doesn't quite drown out the squeak (it nearly does mind you).

ANY OTHER HELP OR INFO REALLY APPRECIATED - Am I unique???

I've never noticed a squeak in the roof when it is up or down. The only things I get squeaks from occasionally are the hinges but thats only when I'm not on smooth roads.

I've heard people lubricate the seals with Autoglym Vinyl & rubber care which seems to work.

When I got the car I lubricated every single seal as a precautionary measure. The squeak is 100% coming from the dash (but not close to where I sit if that makes any sense, but also not from the engine or breaks).

e.g. roof latches=FINE Doors=Fine

I've even removed the housing around the speedo and rev counter and the fuse cover and driven with the roof down and the b****y squeak is still there.

ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS? (see initial post at top for more).

Just wondering did anyone actually find a cure for this sqeak, as mine is doing exactly the same thing. Only having the roof down a couple of times a month now so not a problem, but could be a real annoyance in the summer!!

hey guys, convertibles are noisy cars

with the roof down the rattles intensify, which is obvious with the lack of a roof to hold it all together  ... i know its not acceptable to some but cabs have always been like this... just enjoy 8)

He's right. Convertiables are always going to rattle or squeak in some form or another. Just enjoy the topless cc'ing!

Not sure, but I think mine may only happen when it's cold with the roof down, as since the sun's shining, the squeak has gone (well there now and again, but nowhere near as bad). So I think it's something to do with the plastics being cold. Anyway, shouldn't be posing in the winter with the roof off really. Don't know if others are finding the same,

While were talking about the roof being down, mine sqeaks like mad on the front window seals and i also have a loud banding noise coming from the back on the passenger side whenever i go over small bumps in the road....does any one know what this could be, i search the boot and dont really know what to do now :(

Also could someone answer this really silly question for me...im new to all this and only had my cc for 3 months, i drove it the other day with the roof down for the 1st time and going over speed humps or holes in the road the whole front of the car felt like it was moving all over the place, it was really scarey, is this because there is no roof supporting it? or do i need to make a visit to my dealer?
Also when going over the speed humps with the roof down i get a hissing noise from what sounds like the suspension on the passenger side, with the roof up i cant hear it.

Can anyone answer my questions please!

I think it's a 'feature' of the car. Not sure what you've got, but our 2 litre skips and jumps everywhere when it comes to bumps in the road. I think the hissing noise is probably always there, just you notice it more without the roof soundproofing you. I think it comes to it's a car that definitely needs a radio. I'm sure others will agree. By the time we're in the middle of summer, it'll be the best thing since sliced bread and the only query will be then "how do I stop my head getting sunburnt". And this is coming from someone who still has yet to have the car throughout a summer.

Mine does exactly the same thing, im not bothered as its a convertible... Had mine over a year, I drive it hard and never feel unsafe... Pugs have bad build quality which is fact, just have fun and ignore it!
