Hi all

Well I have had my CC 1 week and have done over 500 miles already and have enjoyed every minute of it.

Yesterday morning (saturday) at 9am I received a phone call from the police asking if I was the owner of a Black 206cc, registration *******, on confirming I was, I was then told that it had been reported parked in a hedge in Morrisons car park in Leeds with all the doors open.

OMG I thought my brand new car has been stolen, I slowly opened the curtains expecting to see a space where the car should be, but thank god she was still parked where I had left her

I told the police the car was still there, so they sent a police car out to investigate. They then rang me back a little later to say that they had found a black 206cc with the exact same plates on as mine, and this car had been stolen from a car hire company during the week.

They suggested that the thieves had probably seen my car about and jotted down the registration plate to put it onto the stolen vehicle.

Everything seems to be ok now, but my only concern is they had gone to all that hassle to put false plates on the car (and I guess produce false documents) to only then abandon the car, what was the car used for?

So I will just have to wait and see if anything else comes out of this

But I remmeber reading a thread about putting a picture of your car onto the web and how important it is to cover the registration plate.

Regards

Sam
Cheers

Yes it really is so very important, that is why I mentioned it. If anyone gets speed camera pictures they know nothing about, that could also be a cause.

Sam,
Don't want to add to your worries but feel that the guys must of been into some serious wrongdoing !. It must of taken some organisation to arrange the duping of the car hire company for starters, as they only accept credit cards these days + getting the plates made up couldn't have occured at a "legitimate" garage !. Would be interested to hear of any further updates you get from the Police.

Hi all

This thing happens all the time. It's very easy to obtain number plates and it's also very easy to hire a car with false details and payment methods...

Don't worry about it. I very much doubt it's any kind of 'organistaion'.

Also remember that if a car was to be used for crime then they'll use a 4x4 landrover type vehicle for ram raids etc, or a very powerful high speed car for quick get aways. These cars are normally taken to order for specific jobs by criminals. Normally the day before.
