This seems a good and simple option - you keep the existing head unit and add any or all of an amplifier, speakers (to front door or rear) and a CD changer. I'm not going for v loud or super hi-fi quality - I just want to be able to hear classical music better with the roof off :P

The catalogue lists the 206 CC specifically in the list of suitable cars and suggests certain models of speakers for front & rear.

Has any one tried it? I would get a professional to install it but having asked the local Halfords and RAC Auto Windscreens (who are Sony approved ICE fitters apparently) they didn't seem to know much about it.

The amp size is 200x35x112 mm and Sony say it can often be fitted behind the dashboard - anyone know whether there is space? The Sony Centre said the heat from the amp might upset the ECU - any thoughts? I don't want to put it under a seat or in the boot.

How easy is it to change the speakers?

Any help welcome

does the standard stereo have a pre out? and the amp would need to be kept cool.

Don't really need one. You can either fit a line level modulator to drop the speaker level outputs back to line level, or purchase an amp that supports high voltage inputs...
Really doesn't sound as bad as you think it would.

I'm gonna do the same myself when I can spare the cash.

I put a 4 channel Kenwood amp under the passenger seat, replaced rears, fronts and tweeters with Kenwood again. Sounds fantastic! Had it installed professionally and am really happy with both appearance and sound.

Frosty,

Can you specify which speakers you used? I mean I took a look at the original tweeters and they are really there to produce some noise, there ain't no music coming out of them that's for sure :(

I would like to know which tweeters you fitted in there (there is so little space) and which speakers you have in the doors.

Also can you tell me if the original wiring was used?

Thx,

I'll find a few pieces of paper around the place and give you an answer. Give me about a week as I've got a lot on at the moment. Next weekend looks good.

One thing I can say is they were 5" in the rear and 6" in the front. I used a Kenwood component system in the front and has the tweeters stuck on to the panel where the original (and absolutely useless) ones were before. The tweeters fitted on the panel look great - hardly notiacble. If you like I can snap a few pictures and let you see for yourself.

I'll provide all the speaker model no's etc to you soon.
Cheers
