Problem with Plastic Fuel Inlet Manifold

Can anyone help - Got in my peugeot 206 gti yesterday went to start when a loud bang went off under the bonnet with smoke - RAC came to tow it to garage - loads of plastic from the inlet manifold was on the ground - why did this happen.

seem to have had a lot of niggly problems with this car.

Any advice as to what it might be will be appreciated
