Hi Guys,
Got an 02' 206 1100 base and noticed the oil pressure warning lamp not coming on with all the other lamps when you turn on the ignition.
Did the usual stuff, checked the pressure switch, bulb etc then connected the switch wire to earth(light should come on with ign on)--still wont come on!
After lots of head scratching, discovered (purely by accident!)that with thiswire still connected, the light will operate after 17 secs of the engine being started!! Tried it loads of times --17 secs every time!!!

What this means is:
a / It must be programmed to do this
b/ There is NO WARNING OF LACK OF OIL PRESSURE on these cars until the engine has run for 17 secs,by which time,if there is a problem,it's probably TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The oil pressure is not the same as oil level. You can do without an oil level indicator in the car .To be asked to do without an accurate indicator of good oil pressure is a wrecked engine waiting to happen.
I've done a little research into this and found afew others with the same complaint(although you can bet your r's there are loads of you that dont even know you have this prob).
I've also noticed S ,T and 05 (at least ) have normally operating oil lights.(that is oil light comes on with ign-goes out when started)
Tried asking the dealer why this is -as expected ,waste of time.

Sorry if i've waffled but if your oil lamp has never worked as above YOUR ENGINE COULD BE AT RISK.
Before i take this up with Peugeot,my questions are thus:
1/ How many others have the same problem?
2/ Who has had a satisfactory explanation from their dealer?
3/ Has anyone who has complained got it put right?

I'm hoping it's just a simple software issue that can be put right by a (FOC!! ) dealer visit- but forewarned is forearmed. Have posted this on another site but i need as much feedback as poss before i start shouting at anyone!
Thanks guys (and girls!)

Colin.

Hi,

I have a 2.0 Lt 02reg SE and I have this problem with the oil light. All the other lights work when the ignition key is turned on. I have had the instrument panel out (very easy job) to se if it was just a bulb. Not so simple though! It is a sealed unit and can't see how a bulb would be changed. I do check my oil very regualary because of this and the electronic dipstick is not the most reliable thing in the world. I would like to think that the "STOP" light would light up if the oil pressure dropped to a dangerous level.

Hi

Is it a 206cc ?
I changed a blulb 2 week ago on the the dash for the head lights as i remeber there are some white plastic knobs that stick out from the back of the instrument panel then you turn it like a light bulb and pull then you pull the bulb out the socket , very easy !!

Hi,
I know the sort of thing you mean I have come across that setup before. I must admit I have not looked at the bulb you are mentioning. The rear of my speedo where the oil light is has no such set up it is a sealed unit. I was expecting the sort of thing you mention when I looked at it.
Thanks for your reply
