How long should an exhaust last?

Mine started making funny noises on the way home and looks like it's come apart underneath (the pipe from the box bit - technical description I know

)

I had it replaced with a brand new one less than 2.5 years ago as I was rear-ended. Surely it should have lasted longer than that???

I have had my 206cc over 6 years now and I would say its weak point is the exhaust as my one only lasted 4 years from new. "2.5 years" well they do say replacement exhausts last less than the originals so I would not be surprised at that.

I think some insurers guarantee repair work for so many years, but not sure if it would cover an exhaust. If you have to purchase a new one do not go to Peugeot, as they normally want Â£1000 to fit. Go to a decent exhaust specialists and make sure they have done a cc exhaust before as it is normally a case of cutting up and welding a gti exhaust to fit. They do not fit straight from the box! Â£300 is about average to have this done.

I had a new rear box fitted (by kwik fit) on my CC after 9 months of having her (second hand). Almost 2 years on and I had a prob with my cat and it needed replacing, so I took it to kwik fit again and they said that my rear box looks as if it would need replacing again shortly as it was corroding. So I told them that they done it less than 2 years ago, so they agreed to replace it under there 2 year warranty.

Now Kwik Fit offer a 3 year warranty on all there exhausts. So may be worth going to them if your worried about having to fork out for a new one a couple years down the line.

Apparently pug exhausts are known for getting holes in because of they have a little dip, where water and other liquids sit and just begin to erode the exhaust.

I had to replace my exhaust earlier this year, got my replacement from Southern Exhaust Systems as mine had gone at joint to the back box meaning I had to replace the box and the section with the cat - Cost me Â£175 for the parts and Â£35 to get it fitted. Cheapest I could find.
