hello to every one

i have a 2001 206cc with the original stereo , the problem is that when i start the car up the cd won't work it makes a noise and nothing but with messing around ejecting ,flicking tracks, ect, it works after about 5 mins but what is really doing my head in, is if you just put the ignition on without starting the engine the cd works fine not a problem but soon as you turn the key and the engine as started it wont work so whats going on !!!!!!

if the cd was not working on ignition i would say that the cd player is knackered but it works perfectly without the engine started so does any body have a idea of what it is or is it a wiring problem or relay switch ?????

ps the radio works fine all the time and i am using original cds

please help !!!!!!

could it be a power thing , if the engine is running its taking some of the power from the stereo (voltage, amps ) causing the cd player not to work because it might need a certain amount of (voltage , amps) ?????

i am sure it is a power drain thing but have no clue on how to sort it or where to look and i think peugeot wouldn't know, i think it might be for an ice expert this one !!!!

the problem aswell is that if i buy another stereo it might do the same and i don't want to lose my steering controls !!!

your car uses more power from the battery and alternator when you start from cold, hence could be a power drain as stated.

have you tried running the car and getting it warm and then leaving it for five mins and then trying it again, does it happen again? If it doesnt flicker then yeah id say its an initial power drain, and that the engine is taking the power from the battery and not enough is getting to the stereo.

if it happens whilst starting the car from warm i'd say its something different from power drainage.

Have you tried replacing fuses etc for the stereo. thats one of the first things i'd do.

also if its a power problem replacing the stereo would still get the same problem as you would be running it from the same power source. (you can get connectors to control an aftermarket stereo from your steering stalk remote)

hope this helps.

one other thing i forgot to add it could be a power spike where too much power is getting to the stereo - try the fuses.

hi
it is as you say it only happens in the morning when it is cold and after 5 mins it works and doesnt flicker and is ok all day stop and starting and i remember it hardly did it in summer , i changed the fuse in the back of stereo and its still the same
i will change the fuse under the steering wheel and see.

if it is the same what would you suggest because i think its a power drain and not too sure how to sort it ???
thanks for the reply

to be honest it could be one of a mulitple of things, i had a similar problem. mine turned out that the battery was on its way out, i new mine was going to be soon though as the car had been standing for a while and the previous owner didnt condition the battery.

get your battery tested, over here some garages do it for free but cant see a battery test being costly but they can tell you if your battery is dying or not.

if its not the battery it could be loads of stuff from engine management to the alternator to a wire being shorted slightly somewhere.

if the fuse doesnt fix it then id get the battery checked if the battery is fine then id get a check up on the car as there could be an underlying fault.

hi again

just put a multimeter to back of the stereo and when on ignition its 12.20 volts and as i start the engine it drops to 10.80 volts and when its ticking over its 14.20 so i think that is normal ?

the radio works ok and all the functions but as soon as i start the engine the cd player works but is stuck on the same time and will not play but on ignition it works normaly!!

so i think its the cd eye or player as a component ploblem and it makes the eye get stuck !!

if anyone as a suggetion feel free to reply as i am not sure if the volt reading are normal if the reading are right i think the problem will be the stereo and i will try to get a replacement

sorry to be a bother
