Gents

Firstly, as a newbie I would like to say a big hello!

The missus has a 206cc 2.0 2001 model. It has done about 40,000 genuine miles, serviced in line with the schedule and has been relatively trouble free until around a year ago.

Around a year ago, a local dealer changed the ‘coil pack’ as the car was occasionally running on 3 cylinders on start up. To my knowledge, they ordered the pack from a main dealer.

Since the change, after standing over weekends, or for overnight with heavy rain/fog, upon start up, the car fires on 3 and the engine management light comes on. After a minute or so of revving in neutral, the engine seems to settle down and run on 4 cylinders. The engine light remains on. At this point its perhaps relevant to state that after switching off and disconnecting the battery for a while, the engine management light goes out.

Can anyone suggest what might be causing this to happen? It certainly seems related to standing/wet weather as otherwise the car runs fine. Is the coil pack a known weakpoint on these models?

My father has suggested perhaps a squirt of WD40 to try to expel any moisture, but where do I apply the WD40 and is the place to apply each to access?

Your help and assistance would be very greatly appreciated
