Hi,
I have just bought a 206 gti. It is a 01 plate. It is running on 2 cylinders. when I put 4 spark plugs into the coil and turn the engine over, it is only sparking on cylinders 1 and 2. My diagnosis of this is that either the coil pack is knackered, the wiring from the coil to the ecu is damaged or the ecu itself is damaged.

The owner before me took it to a pug dealer and they replaced the plugs and an injector. How can trained mechanics get a diagnosis so badly wrong. Surely the first port of call for a car running on 2 cylinders would be to check that a spark is getting to each cylinder. The dealer then informed the owner that the valves were clogged up and it needed an engine rebuild!!!!! How could this possibly cause only 2 plugs to spark?

Am I going down the right lines by replacing the coil pack first and then if it doesnt sort the problem get the ecu repaired (if its been damaged by spiking)?

I have been reading a lot about anti pollution faults. I am sure that this is not the same as it runs on 2 cylinders all the time.

If it is not the coil pack and ecu are there any other sensors which could be causing this problem?

Regards
Sandy
