Hi Pat,
I understand that disconnecting the battery for a while (10 minutes or so) then reconnecting will cause the speedo to recalibrate itself. However I have never done this myself so I am not speaking from experience.
If that doesn't work then I would suspect the speed sensor.
If reap comes on he may well be able to advise you better as he has first hand technical knowledge.

Speed sensors are normally part of the ABS system as far as I know. Haven't first hand experience of it though myself. I would check with a dealer or indie rather than replacing stuff willy-nilly, which can be expensive guesswork. However I suppose it could be something more basic like the pointer having moved on its spindle.
Sorry the battery disconnection didn't work, but at least that is ruled out now.

so the speedo works? it just doesnt sit on the zero? sits at six o clock?
sounds like the needles coming off the spindle.happens alot. need to remove speedo, carefuly pull off the clear plastic face.
pull needle off and push it back on so it faces zero.jobs a gooden. 15 mins tops :)
