Hi there,

This is my first post on here but i most say that this is a brilliant forum and it/u all have been very helpful with problems i have had in the past, which leads me to my prob.

I came home my car (206cc 2001 2.0) manual 82k mileage, very nice love it will be adding pics soon. Anyway came home car was running fine, switched off went inside for about 40min came back out to go to an appointment i had, car wouldn't start, no battery power, tried turning the key again slight clicking noise. Got a jump car started then cut out, started again then i went on my way, whilst driving the abs light and the handbrake light came on and nothing else.

Reached my destination, waited in car with engine running, it cut out again and wouldn't start. I also stress that all electrics where off, got it started again from a jump but it cut out when i tried to put window down. as if things weren't bad enough it started raining hard so once i begged someone for a jump AGAIN, i had to use wipers and dim lights. Took it for a run on the motorway to try charge the battery, a few corners from home i had to flash a car through and the engine cut out again this time i managed to roll start it all the time the two lights are on, abs/brake. Once i got home it cut out again before i could turn it off with the key.

I cannot understand why this is happening. Any help pls as i thought it might be the battery but the indicator on the battery says it is charging fine. Could it be the alternator or is it much worse.

P.S. My boyfriend used this forum to install my stereo and amp/sub, a few weeks ago, not sure if this could be a cause, i if it is then that is weird as the car has been running fine for wks prior to him installing it.

PLs PLs Pls i need some advice.
Short but always sweet... SHORTCAKES

Is it the original 7 year old battery? If so it is probably in need of a new one.
Earth strap?
Connections?
Don't think it's the starter if its cutting out while running.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

I need help too!

I don't drive every day and often leave my car to sit for long periods eg 2 weeks etc.

resently I left my car to stand for a week and I wouldn't start, If I get a jump start I can drive but when I turn off the engine I run the risk that my car may not start again.

I have a 51 plate, and as you can see I have the exact same problem. I am going to attempt to change the battery myself, the battery will cost me approx £90.

However if this does not work i've been told it would be the alternator.

I'll keep you posted.

P.S I too hear the clicking noise when trying to start the engine.

Hello Marina, welcome to the forum.
From the symptoms you describe, with a 7 year old battery, you need to replace it with a brand new one.
If it was the alternator you would have a red light showing on the dash when the engine is running, to warn you that it is not charging.
A new battery will put out about 12.8 volts minimum. If you test yours with a multimeter you'll most likely find it is putting out less than 12 volts.
A new battery is the answer here I feel. Get the right one from Peugeot and it should fit perfectly. Get a pattern one from a motor factors and you may find it is not as tall. A cheap fix then is a bit of wood underneath it to make it fit.
As they last quite a few years I'd get the proper specification one if it was me, but shop around for the best deal and service.
All the best, Let us know how you get on please.

th02mmo got a new one for less than £40 from his Peugeot dealer not so long ago when they had them on special offer.

You will see from this thread that he overtightened one of the bolts on the strap keeping the battery in the tray (doh) and snapped a piece off the tray. There is no need to whack them up THAT tight.

Batteries vary so much in price depending who you buy from. This week Halford's quoted me £59.95 for one for my daughter's Corsa. The local motor factors could do one for £54.95. I ended up buying from my regular tyre supplier and got a decent make (Ducellier) for just £41.00, and they would have fitted it too for that price. I didn't need them to fit it though as I did it myself.
