Seeing tasha86's post where she said she's wanted one before she could drive made me remember that the first time I laid eyes on a 206CC, I thought it was the ugliest car ever made.
In 2002 it was, and a Cayman Green passed us in the opposite direction. I said 'Yuk Dad, who would design a car that looks like that, and then who would BUY one???'
Thats when dad told me about how the French weren't afraid to design cars differently, while Ford and Holden stuck to similar (and rather boring) shapes because theyre known to work. He knew it was a convertible somehow and told me that so that justified the ugly rear, but didn't make up for it.
I would never have guessed that 7 years later, I'd end up with one, let alone loving it! The car wasn't my idea, I was actually looking at 206 hatchbacks, among other cars - just can't believe how much my opinion of them has changed!
I have a confession to make...

Ugly? What planet are you on?
(Although that said, when I follow my friend in hers I do look and think does mine look as awful as that from behind?? ------ I did once consider a Vauxhall Tigra and how ugly is their back end?? Being female I no longer ask how my rear looks in this

I thought the same in 2002 also. I went clubbing with friends and we left our cars in the hotel car park I was manager of. The next day I went to wave them off and one of my friends cousins had a 206cc in silver and as we waved her off my best friend who I worked with said, "what she see's int hat car I do not know" and I said "Funny that, I was just thinking how hideous it was" I never in a million years knew the roof popped off52nd of February wrote:Seeing tasha86's post where she said she's wanted one before she could drive made me remember that the first time I laid eyes on a 206CC, I thought it was the ugliest car ever made.

I was actually going to invest in a Black london taxi, its been my dream car, but they wanted £900 insurance with a specialist company as many of the mainstream companies will not insure an ex hackney carriage. Direct line told me to take off the orange light on the roof, the partition glass wall and put in a second passenger front seat and they would 'consider' insuring it. (But then it wouldnt be a London Taxi)
I then started to look at Renault Megane soft tops, found a couple in red, but then by accident on auto trader spotted the 206cc, I knew it was the ugly car I recalled as being hideous at the hotel, but I was dead set a 206cc it was.

I don't think they're ugly anymore, I just can't believe I went from thinking they looked awful to thinking it's the prettiest car everhelen10266 wrote:Ugly? What planet are you on?

I've TRIED to like the 207CC, I've TREID, but I just can't
As for the Tigra, it's a nice-looking car apart from it's over-sized taillights. Put them in proportion and I'd like it more than the CC, if it came in auto

I must admit, long before I had one, or even dreamed of having one, I used to think they looked "unusual". I think it's the spoiler things on the back and the ridged back. I think they definitely look better with the roof down but I love mine now whatever.
I don't like Tigra's at all, they just look cheap somehow.
The only problem I have is the 206cc is not ideal for a growing family. We do have another car, a Picasso (don't laugh!) but my other half keeps telling me we need to sell them both and get a bigger convertible. I know that would be a solution but I can't bring myself to sell the 206cc.
Ollie, can I ask, if your 206cc is your second car, how did you manage to build up no claims on it? I had a problem with this when I bought my 206cc as I had to start with NIL no claims even though I have full no claims on the other car. The insurance proved to be a bit of a shock!

When I turned 18 my very first car was a Peugeot 205 5dr and I racked up 2 years no claims with Direct Line, but they wouldnt move my no claims to my 2nd car as I had used my breakdown cover. I had 2 temp cars a red rover and a white mondeo I think, then I got a fiat punto in blue in sept 2005 and started my insurance from scratch. I started with Endsleigh insurance then around 2007 I moved insurer to Swift Cover and they took on my 2 years no claims. Got rid of the fiat last october and bought 206cc this march, stayed with swift cover, they sent me a 4 years no claims certificate last october when fiat ended, so went with them again, for me, they are brilliant.Thar wrote:Ollie, can I ask, if your 206cc is your second car, how did you manage to build up no claims on it? Mine cost me over £500 this year and I have 75% no claims apparently, whatever that equates to. But I do have a lowish excess and and I am an old fart so I think you did very well.
So do you have a seperate no claim bonus for the renault?
