Rear Wheel Removal ?

Post by fayrana »

Hi all, now this may seem like a stupid question but it's begining to frustrate me.
How do I remove the rear wheel in order to change the pads? I have removed all the wheel bolts and the wheel remains solid. Removed the centre cap to reveal the hub cover. At face value this looks as though it's removed after the wheel is off as it is recessed and appears as though it you would not be able to remove it through the gap created by the removal of the centre cap. Both wheels are the same so I'm guessing the is a simple solution. My Haynes manual only covers the 206 that does'nt have ally wheels.
Thanks in advance.

Jack up the car to raise the wheel. Ensure the car is well supported, not just by the jack. Use blocks of wood or similar. Make sure you support it thoroughly, you don't want the car falling off the jack.

Remove the wheel bolts. Lay an old piece of carpet on the ground for the wheel to fall on so that the alloy finsh is not damaged when the wheel falls off the hub.

Use a substantial piece of timber (I use a 4 foot length of 4" x 4" surplus fence post) and whack the inside wall of the tyre at the bottom until you get some movement. Rotate the wheel 180 degrees, then whack the inside wall of the tyre again at the bottom until you get some movement. Rotate the wheel 90 degrees and whack it again, and continue in this fashion until the wheel is off.

Before you replace the wheel remove all traces of rust from the mating faces of the wheel hub and smear it with grease. Clean the mating surface of the wheel and smear that with a little grease. After replacing the wheel, smear the threads of the wheel bolts and the chamfers with a little grease. Do up the wheel bolts gradually.

Use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts fully once you've got the car back on the ground ( 90 Nm / 66 lbf ft ).
