Hi there,
I bought my cc only a week ago from a garage and it was perfect (meaning nothing wrong) till 4 days later. I was driving and suddenly speed dial went to zero. After driving a bit it started working again and then went to zero again and so on. Now every time i drive it goes to zero and normal, zero and normal, no matter what speed i'm doing. I went to local garage as the garage i bought it from is too far and they agreed to pay the cost cause i got 3 months warranty with it. Other garage did all the checks and couldn't find anything. Said to drive for the weekend, which i have been doing but it still keeps going to zero. I'm going back tomorrow morning but they almost don't believe me that it keeps happening because they cant actually see it- typical. Can anyone help me?
Thank you.

You tell us too little about the car. Year, model, history etc.

We have a 2005 1.6 not a 2.0 litre so I am not familiar with your car.
Generally though on models without a speedometer drive assembly in the transmission the vehicle speed data is received from the engine management ECU. This information is supplied from the wheel speed sensors and the ABS ECU. The first thing I would check is whether the car has a speedo drive cable or not.

I have the same model and had exactly the same problem for a couple of times (falls to zero while driving then it is back after a minute or two). For last couple of months it's not happening. I didn't do anything it now just works fine.

That model has an electronic speedo sender in gearbox. Could be that, the wiring plug that connects to it or the speedo head itself. I would start with the plug as it is a no cost check. Speedo drive is located at back of gearbox above the o/s driveshaft. Take off the plug and spray sender and plug with contact cleaner. dry and reconnect. If speedo now ok, it's job done!
