Roof not working....... HELP ........PLEASE......

Post by Denisedenovan »

Well my hubby bought me a blue cc due to me always having wanted one. I bought the car and my other half likes to get in about a car and he is pretty handy.

Anyway, the roof was down and it would not go back up, so we had to manually do it. Which we did as per the hand book. Well the roof has not worked since. Complete nightmare.

This is what we have tried so far.

1. I have checked the shelf is extended as it should be.
2. I have had it on a hand held diagnostics with no fault code showing.
3. I have reset the white hooks in the automatic position.
4. I have tried the resetting of the SH fuse, to no avail.
5. I have checked the micro switches that they are all working and clicking as they should.
5. I have searched this website for anything else that I could check to no avail.
6. I have tried the sticky with the extra bits if info for the resetting of the roof as well.
7. I have had all the fuses checked to ensure that the fuses are all ok.
8. I have compared the boot mechanism and switches with another 206 cc to ensure it matches to the one that the roof does work.
9. I have put the white pull cord back to the original position too.

When I try and put the roof down. I get no beep to say that the roof is ready to come down. When I pull the switch to put the roof down it just beeps constantly until I let go. I don't hear any motor noises.

I have it booked into a diagnostics centre when the garage Gets their new computer I stalled in the next couple of days to see if that will come up with anything.

I have screamed at it. I have caressed the car and talked very very nicely to it, especially on sunny days when I am driving with the roof up. Lol. I even bought the car a lucky donkey teddy to get it through the

MOT test. Which it did.

After all I really wanted the car. My husband wants to just get rid of it, as he hates it and the amount of work that he has done to it to get it through the test.

I filled it up with petrol once it had the test and there was a huge hole in the petrol tank. Oooppps!!!! But that problem has now been fixed.

I hope that someone will be able to help me figure out what is wrong with my wee car, from this wonderful website. In the interim I will continue to trawl the site for any hints and tips that it might be.

Thank you for taking the time to read and any help would be gratefully appreciated. :love-thx:

Hi Denise,

Sorry to hear of your troubles! If everything appears to be in place, the only things I can think of would be microswitches losing their sensitivity (like the one that detects the shelf being in place, that would explain why it beeps when you try to put the roof down even with the shelf extended), faulty wiring or a faulty ECU, which for your sake I certainly hope isn't the case! The fact that you hear no motor noises must mean the problem is electrical and not worn-out mechanics because the process won't initiate, and that's what makes me think it's a microswitch somewhere, wiring or the roof's ECU.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific, good luck!

Thanks 52nd February.

I honestly haven't got a clue about what could be wrong, I am pinning my hopes on it being a micro switch which I hope will show up as an error when it goes on the diagnostics computer. It better not be the ECU as I think my hubby will be setting a bloody match to the car. Lol. Of course I would be extremely upset........ But I can see it from his perspective too.

I've been trawling this site and the Internet for a few weeks trying to seek an answer. To no avail.

After the diagnostics check, if it still shows no fault, I am going to have to take it to a Peugeot dealer, who I know are not particularly purse friendly and I know they don't seem to have a great reputation for roof fault finding. Lol.....

So wait out I think at the moment, and hopefully all will be revealed. Lol.

I have even drawn diagrams of the location of the micro switches to check them. I think that shows my commitment to finding the fault. Lol........

Hey, thanks anyway. Have a great evening.

Denise

Well today I went to my local Peugeot dealer just for a chat and to see what the craic is with roofs. My friends diagnostic machine is getting installed today, so he has promised to put it on over the weekend.

Anyway, spoke to the Coleraine, Northern Ireland Dealer and he had a look at the car. He said it could be anything....... He said sometimes you have to reset the roof manually twice to get it to reset......... Me and my hubby tried this this afternoon which didn't work.....

I told him it was going onto the computer at a diagnostics place, he said don't bother as it will just tell you roof error and it won't tell me what exactly is wrong??????? Does anyone know if this is true????

He also said that it costs £60 an hour for them to have a look at it, and they might not even find the fault. I asked how they do that and he said they manually have to go around the roof checking it??????? So is it possible that a car with an intelligent ECU system does not have a computer to check for faults?????

Other possibilities included maybe a small hydraulic fluid leak somewhere, a microswitch problem, electrical problem..... The list was endless....

Then he says, the mechanic is on holiday until 7 September so to ring after then if i want it booked in? I left the conversation saying I'll be in touch and I want to put it on the diagnostics computer first rather than pay a Peugeot mechanic a fortune per hour and not find the fault? He told me to budget for 2 possibly 3 hours for fault finding if I do leave it in..... What a joke...... Never in my life......

So I am left with the hope of the computer finding the fault, and that I can then take it to the garage and tell them what to fix instead of paying to fault find.....

Everything you say above rings true.

I don't think a diagnostic test will tell you any more than you already know.

I think It needs a systematic check of all the microswitches, one by one. Time consuming.

Why not get in touch with our member reap, he set up on his own as an independent Peugeot specialist last year, and knows them inside out. Do a search for posts under his name. If you can't find it come back and someone will find his details for you.

With a potentially time consuming job like this you could end up with a big bill.

Having the same problem, after quite a few hours investigating we found the micro switch on drivers side roof hook to be faulty. Ordered one online will update when we replace it. I also found second hand ECU's online for £25 so not to bad. Fingers xxx'd

Hi all
Well my new part arrived today, fitted in about an hour after which realized that the hydraulic strut that operates the moving rear shelf needs to be returned into its closed position (towards the front of car). Finally got my roof back in working order. Also whilst fascia removed adjusted the left and right roof strikers 3 ml hopefully to stop the odd drip from seals where roof meets windscreen, will update next time we have rain (not to soon I hope). Well chuffed.

Well done dadhog. When we had a 206cc I used to grease the seals once a year with silicon grease (you can buy tubs of it from plumbers merchants). That kept any leaks at bay.
