hi
i just bought a 206 1.4 diesel 2004 on a 53 plate for my son last week, car has been running fine until yesterday when it got serviced. the oil filter was changed and the oil was changed, also the battery in the key was changed, when my mechanic was driving along the road the engine light came on, air bag light came on, the rec counter and speedo all stopped working? i drove it today and it done the same to me it beeped then lights came on and speedo etc stopped working, i turned the corner and everything went back to normal except the airbag light...this stayed on until i got home. i switched the car off at home and turned it back on again and the airbag light went out? can anyone advise on what might be the problem please????

Folk often get spurious messages like this when the car's battery is on its way out. If the car is on its original battery it will be 8 years old. You may well find that a brand new battery will be the cure.

Sounds like a fault on can-bus (bsi) There is a fuse box by the drivers knee, and roughly in the centre is the bsi fuse. It stands out from all the others. Get in the car, shut the door, leave the key out of the ign. After 1 minute take out the bsi fuse, clean the blades of it and replace it. give it a good wiggle, then try road testing again. If this doesn't help, looks like you might have to hunt down a loose connection.
The engine light coming on should have logged a fault code (DTC) so a code reader may be of help to localise fault.

thanks guys, i will give these a try.
would it be also possible for it to be something wrong with the immobiliser? just when i got the car it ran fine and the battery in the key did not work...since replacing this battery the problem has started.

Have you resynchronised the remote control as per your owners handbook? Is it working and unlocking your doors ok? If so then I suspect that it is coincidental.
Is the car battery the original 8 year old one?
