My Engine siezed ;-(

Post by Nicole1988 »

I need someones help.

Im so thick with cars i have no clue about anything.

Basically my car broke, I got it taked to a garage and they told me that my engine had siezed.

So I need to know where I can buy a engine, what one do I buy, how much I should pay and how much should it cost to fit?

This is sooo confusing for me!

thanks

Your engine code is NFU.
Peugeot 206 / 307 /Citroen c5 / Xsaras use the same engine.
It's a TU5JP4. Best to get one you can hear running.
£200-£250 should get a decent one. About the same again to fit.

If you go for that one, buy it with a credit card to give you section74 protection.
Only problem is, although it is g'teed, if there is a fault, you will have to pay again to get it taken out again.

Have you not got a local scrapyard that you can get one from?
Try and get one from a low mileage car that's not been front ended as it can break some of the engine brackets off. Get side or rear damage if poss.
Can you take someone with you to listen?
Breakers yards usually remove the engines for you. You just have to arrange to collect it.

He's a Polish guy, got a unit behind some hoardings. Can't remember the road. I have dealt with him before, and he was OK.
Only worry with that one is the car has been "front ended" and things like the alternator brackets can get broken when the front of the car gets pushed into the engine.

Have a very careful look at the front to make sure it is all intact. See if you can hear it run.

EDIT. From the photo, front damage doesn't look too bad.
Cheers Col.

Know what you mean. He sounds Indian. He should get it out for you, he seems quite obliging.

You can, but they are part of the front engine casings and it's not a 5 minute job. Best to find one that's not damaged. Can you take someone with you to make sure it's OK?

What about the garage that said it was seized? What area are you?

One other thing.
Wherever you buy your engine, make sure you fit a new cambelt before you put it in!

So now I have to buy a new cambelt as well?

I live in Chertsey.

No I dont know anyone that knows anything about cars, I need to marry a mechanic i think lol!!

Well when it first broke I was in Clapham Junction so i had it towed to a garage near where i was and they told me £1600 to fix it, so i had it towed back home and now its just on my drive.

you could put the new engine in and drive it down the road and the cambelt snap so back to square 1you need it done as a precaution because you don't know the history of the engine plus a cambelt is easier to do before the new engine is put in. how did your old engine sieze?
