Hi all.
206cc 1.6 '51 2002 106K
Car wouldn't start yesterday. needed a jump form a battery charger. Car then ran ok. Popped into town and returned to car a few hours later. Same problem. Nice parking attendant gave me a push and it started first time. Only had the car a couple of months but this is the first time I've had problems with starting.
Basically, how do i know if it's the battery or starter motor (without taking it to a garage, as on a tight budget). Service history is sketchy so don't know if/when battery or starter has been replaced.

Probably battery as it started with a jump start ... but I'd be wary of using a battery charger to do that in the future. There's a lot of sensitive electrics now and it doesn't take much to fry something!
Batteries have a limited life and can start to go after only three years. With all the additional power needed for the CC roof, and if you do a lot of short journeys, you will fine the battery goes quicker than other cars. The battery in our hatchback lasted 8 years ... but that is probably a exception to the rule!
Check out carpart4less.co.uk ... we got a replacement battery from them for the hatchback for around £55 and it was delivered in a couple of days. Be wary of Halfords as their lists are often wrong (the battery has to be the right size and power) and they are also pretty expensive when compared to other sources. PS carparts4less is actually an online only outlet for Euro Car Parts. Free delivery too (at the moment!)

Yeah, it's not turning over at all so pretty likely the battery. Been on Euro Car Parts and I can get a battery for just over £45 (and they're only a few miles away).

I've always found the Peugeot main dealer to be very competitive on price for batteries. And buying from them you should get the correct battery first time. The one for the 206cc is taller than the one for the hatchback.
Incidentally, I'd be inclined to think battery rather than starter motor too, going on the symptoms as described.

I had no idea 206CC was taller .. 
We've got two 206's - a CC and 1.4 hDi hatch. Both have the same battery (type 027), and all the sites I've checked show the same in both at 190mm. Now it could be that is right for our hatch and it's different in others. But as the CC has had a previous owners, it could be it's got the wrong one .. although it's the right number on the top. The 1.4 is probably right as we bought that as a 1 year old and changed the battery for the first time this year! Yes, lasted ten years!!!
I'd be very interested to know the correct height for a CC to double-check though as we have had the battery terminal come off once. The AA guy packed out under the battery to lift it.

a have the exact same poblem my battery was cooked and put new one in recomenderd by shop[ byr a raylight 063 but after a fewmonths it starts to dye on me you get all your neddles go haywire amd wont start think because its the 1.6cc they not ment to get astronger battery than the 063 battery thanks

I bet your new battery is only 175mm tall so the shop will have got it wrong. I'd take it back and get them to replace it with the correct battery. You need an 012 not an 063. The correct battery should be 190mm tall. A lot of people make the same mistake.
