Hi folks new to site just bought a y plate 206 gti the other day, ok first fault I noticed is my brake lights were not working, everything else was fine bulb wise so a replaced bulbs just now and there still not working, alson the indicator rear bulbs have just blown on both sides so I have taken them out, to be replaced the front indicators are not working the now but were fine before a changed brake light bulbs, do these bulbs run on a circuit or something please help

As you are having problems with two sets of rear lights, it could be you have an earthing problem at the rear which is causing all the bulbs to go hay-wire ... check the connectors to the light units .. they are behind the carpeting in the boot/hatch. The connecters just push on, so pull them off, check for corrosion, etc and replace ...


Brake lights both both not working could be the switch on the brake pedal under the dash. Not overly difficult to replace.

When you say you've removed by rear indicator bulbs, have you replaced them? If not the fronts and repeaters won't work properly as it needs the two (front and rear) to provide the right resistance. Otherwise the normal response is the remaining working bulb flashes twice a quickly as it should.

If you haven't had it long, and you bought it from a dealer, get them to fix it! It's not "fit for purpose" if you can't drive it. Private sale, you are probably on your own! :(
