Strange Occurrence

Post by Kusadasi Dan »

Had a strange occurrence the other day while driving a 110Km trip, my 2004 RG with 67000km. I stopped to fill-up with Shell, the trip went fine until the return on the highway I stopped to pay the toll and I notice the motor was idling around 800 rpm’s and was surging, reading the water temp was around 88 or 89C, not quiet 90c, outside temp that day was 42c very hot day, no oil warring or stop engine lights illuminate. So I thought maybe it was because of the heat as it was mid-day. I turn the car off and restarted, she started right away, but then the anti-pollution light fault came on and the check engine light also came on. Now I’m thinking bad gas from Shell or engine management control died. I drove the remaining 65km, all indications were normal except the anti pollution fault keep illuminating and check engine light and a slight pinging when climbing hills. After driving the gas out over the next few days, with these fault lights I made an appointment to take the car to service, since our days average temps have been 39c, I decided to make the 90KM trip in the early morning, I since filled the car with known good gas, when I arrived for service, The Peugeot dealership said I need the following parts, but these parts were not on hand and would have to be ordered, the Parts No.1635.Q9, and 1940.V3, putting it nicely I said to myself now I have to drive back the 90km in this heat will she make it. Forty km into my return trip, the engine check light went out, then the anti-pollution light went out, I stopped alongside the road and the engine idle was back to normal, I took the chance in the middle of nowhere and shut the car down and restarted, no fault lights, the engine check light came on briefly then went out as normal engine temp almost 90C and everything is back to normal. Was it bad gas? or is something coming, I’ve searched all post and I can’t find the combinations of faults I had, as a safety net I have ordered to add to my stockades, I welcome any idea’s you may have or experiences like this with your 206cc :yikes: :yikes:

Hello there, I have the same "problem" with the anti-pollution light and the little screen in the centre of the dashboard told me there was something wrong with it, that night was very cold and wet in London, i hadnt used the car during that week (five days) and the weather was warm-cold those days....
I read info in some forums and people had same problems, that depends on the weather conditions actually, if for some reason there is a bit of condensation inside the escapee pipe, the computer send the wrong info cause is very accurate but sometimes too much!
I did stop the engine that night two times, and when i started it again for the third time the problem was magically gone... i could go to the cinema :)
Aparently nothing to be worry about and since ever then i have no had the same fault again........
Hope this helps Dan!! :)
Pablo.-

Sounds like a problem with the fuel. The "pinking" that occurred climbing hills indicates that it was below standard. Now that you have filled up with decent fuel and things have returned to normal I think all will be well again.

I always try to use good quality fuel in our 206cc, either Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate.

Certainly sounds as if it was contaminated.
