Have read all the forums comments on the squeaky brake syndrome and worst luck I have caught the disease myself. I have only just hit 1000 miles (after 2 months) and the amount of break dust that is coming onto the wheels is very alarming! I took the car to my local dealer (Arriva) and he said they will have a look at the brakes to try and fix the problem with the squeak but he said that all Pug cars have excessive amounts of brake dust on the wheels. He said the only way to solve the problem is to either wash the wheels every day ( I think not) or to go to Halfords and buy plastic caps which fit over the inside of the wheel (around the brake pad area). Should the car already have these fitted?
I know a lot of people have had this problem with squeaky brakes but has anybody had the brake dust problem and will the solution they gave me work?
Any advice would be very grateful.

I have just hit 1000 miles in 2 months and touch wood haven't had the squeaky brakes but do have a lot of brake dust. However I had the same on my previous car, a Vauxhall Tigra. I presumed it was something you had to live with, with disc brakes and alloy wheels. Do these brake covers work?

Check the stats from the survey when they're posted. You'll see you're not alone and in the minority of getting it fixed.

I must have been the shortest time ever.
After only 400KM, I heard squeaky brakes noise. Its not bad when roof is up (thus: loud stereo). I drove it with the roof down. It was terrible, I only had it for 5 days. Could you have imagine how I felt? Oh well, I still love my CC. Wouldn't exchange it for anything. (maybe 2X CCs)

My car is goin for service next week.

The problem is embarrassing. My brakes squealed so badly people would stare when driving down busy streets. I would also suggest there may be a safety issue relating to this... even if it is just the fact that you feel reluctant to brake heavily because of the noise... I know that I changed my braking technique with this problem... when slowing down for lights etc i would ease off and re-apply if i heard the noise. Not very safe at all.

At first I was told that I needed to have my brakes cleaned (de-glazed?) and that that would fix it. I Protested that it was more serious, but was beaten back. I had to pay too (not happy). It didn't fix the problem at all.

Now new brakes have been fitted and that seems to have done the trick. Didn't get my money back though.

Take a look at the survey results when Lyndon posts them. You'll see a high percentage of the owners who contributed have suffered the problem with low resolution rate.
