Airbag light and VAN interface?

Post by caseley »

Hello

I have an issue with my 2003 206cc.
The airbag warning light has come on and the centre display reads, passenger airbag fault.
I’ve done all the usual bits and soldered the connections under the seat rather than having the plug, and I’ve check all the wiring and other connectors are in good condition.
A friend has read the fault codes and has given me the following: 1f40, 106f, 1806.
He said they were driver side seatbelt fault and a permanent VAN interface fault.
I have checked the driver’s side seat belt, but it appears OK. I have no idea what the VAN interface is though. Can anyone help or tell me what may need replacing?

Many thanks,
Mark

before i start, why did you take the connectors off ?

this might help you with the codes
First digit structure is as follows:

Pxxxx for powertrain
Bxxxx for body
Cxxxx for chassis
Uxxxx for future systems
Second digit structure is:

P0xxx Government required codes
P1xxx Manufacturer codes for additional emission system function; not required but reported to the government
Third digit structure is:

Px1xx measurement of air and fuel
Px2xx measurement of air and fuel
Px3xx ignition system
Px4xx additional emission control
Px5xx speed and idle regulation
Px6xx computer and output signals
Px7xx transmission
Px8xx transmission
Px9xx control modules, input and output signals

Hi Shadow,

Thanks for the reply. I took the connectors off as I know this to be a common fault and the fault seamed to occur once I had moved the seat.

You say that the fault codes are not for the airbag. However could you please advise me what they are for then? They do not appear to be in the usual format that you describe and on my friends fault code reader, the error description indicated that they were for R/H seat belt and VAN interface.

I'm struggling to understand what the VAN interface is? And which items in the airbag circuit may be at fault.

Many thanks.

caseley Vehicle Area Network (VAN)
VAN Controllers allow the transfer of all the status information needed in a car or truck over a single low-cost wire pair, thereby, minimizing the electrical wire usage. They can be used to interconnect powerful functions (ABS, dashboard, power train control) and to control and interface car body electronics (lights, wipers, power window, etc.
typically used for lamp control; complex, highly-autonomous, distributed systems like engine controls, which require fast, secure data transfers. hope this helps, get the codes read with a good reader
