Catalytic Converter Fault

Post by Brrrett »

I've scoured the forum for answers to the "Catalytic Converter Fault", "Anti-Pollution Fault", engine light on continually, sluggish to no power problem that many people seem to have with the 206cc, but it doesn't seem as if any of the posts give an answer to what the problem is and how to fix it - most seem to say that if you leave it and it goes away just ignore it or disconnect the battery for a few days and plug it back in to reset.

I have a 206cc experiencing all of the above problems on a daily basis, i disconnected the battery for a few days but the problem still persists (and now all the automatic sensors don't work - windscreen wipers, automatic lighting, key-in-ignition/lights-still-on warning beep, etc.) and after taking it to more mechanics than I care to mention, the problem still exists. Latest advice is that the coil is cracked and the whole coil pack needs to be replaced, but it's expensive so I've been looking on the internet to find out if this is a legitimate claim or if it's just another mechanic taking a chance?

Can someone advise on the coil? And how do I reset to get the automatic sensors working again?

Firstly you really need to get the fault codes read. Without, you will be hunting in the dark and could end up spending a lot of money on things you don't need.

Make sure you haven't just got a leak in the exhaust as this throws the lambda system into confusion and you get all manner of weird errors.

As for coilpacks. They are easy to fit and when ours failed I got a 2nd hand one from pug206cc-spares on ebay (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/pug206cc-spares/)

Thanks Shadow, but I have already ordered a new one that should arrive tomorrow.

I have a 2004 2lt 206cc. What other specs are relevant? It's a car I inherited and there is a whole stack of things wrong with it:
- Coil cracked (keeps giving the Catalytic Converter Fault and has absolutely no power)
- The window winder switch unit is fried (opens and closes passenger windows but not drivers window). Peugeot dealership want to charge +-200 quid for a new one.
- Reverse light is permanently on wen the car is turned on
- Roof no longer works (you can hear the motor making a noise, but nothing happens)
- CV Joints are toast
- All automatic sensors stopped working after the battery-out-for-a-few days reset

I have to say, I'm not loving this car and Peugeot dealers are unnecessarily expensive and unhelpful.

Sell it for scrap?

Reverse lights is probably gearbox switch ... cheap and easy to fix

CV Joints ... I would simply get two new/recond driveshafts (I bought one for our 1.4 Hdi recently for around £65. I wouldn't bother with 2nd hand as they are probably worn already.

Get a 2nd hand window switch from a breakers or ebay

Read up on the roof issues on this site ....

You might be able to reset the auto sensors but disconnecting and reconnecting the battery in the correct way .. as before, there's a write-up on this site. Otherwise you may need access to PeugeotPlanet to get things reset.

Stop using Peugeot dealers and find a good independent garage ... dealers charge 80-100 per hour, indies 45-50 and they also tend to care more for the car and the owner!
