Hi can anyone help me out on this one, P 206cc 2001 1.6 Bought off someones drive with flat battery , had been left standing 18 months. Jump started it easily and was driven home with no problems.
Got it home to the garage never knew about soft sleep / wake up procedures for battery disconnection, bought new battery and fitted it, now wont start. Economy mode showing on display, fresh petrol added.
Soft wake up now been tried at least 6 times !
Only supplied with one key which had both the lock/unlock rubber buttons missing, so bought a new key casing and swopped over the metal blade And the transponder chip and fitted new cr6 battery. Although the original key had two buttons marked lock and unlock the circuit board only has a micro switch for lock function only.
Not bothered at this stage about central door locking although it central locks on the key.
The alarm is DEFINATELY working ok !!!
Have checked all the fuses and they are intact
I have read all about pp2000 etc but not sure if it will highlight my problem even one as minute as say the aerial transponder on the key. Would it ?
Q1. Is the problem likey to be my key fob operations OR my 12v battery changing ones.
Q2. If i am in deep do-do with the bsi or ecu is it practical to just remove the whole lot from a donor car ?
Q3 Willing to pay travel expenses and reasonable fees to anyone who feels they can diagnose and corrrect all that I have done. Thanks Terry Basingstoke Hants RG24 9PN

Your car is pre plex so I would be looking at the key first. Have you still got the old parts? If so, re-assemble it to how it was and try it. At least you will have eliminated the security side by doing this.

Thanks, I do have all the old key components, i'll begin to swap them back over and try to start the car again to see if that works.

Well, put the key back together the way it was before (When it Started) but alas no joy at starting the engine again. All systems seem to be working but as usual economy mode showing on the display.
Just looked at the vehicle reg document, the car may well have been built in 2001 but was first registered on 25.1.2002. So non-multplex cut off date unclear.
Vehicle variant 2DNFU*
Version 2*NFU*
VIN CHASSIS VF32DNFUF42173165
ENGINE NUMBER FX2F1354011
Reg Mark RN51 ***
Read about whether it is multiplex type ,,, not sure but it does have two red buttons on the dash-top.

Easiest way to tell is do you have a *shunt* fuse in fusebox above drivers knee?
Back to basics
Have you got any warning lights up on dash?
When you say it won't start, is it cranking and at normal speed?
Going back to your questions
Q1 Sounds battery related. Is it the correct 206cc battery? (they are taller than the one for the hatchback)
Q2 No. It's a mine field ( see this thread ) That's if yours has BSI.

Hi
I checked the fuse box and it DOES Have a shunt fuse.
Beginning to think the battery may perhaps be the problem. I have installed a 40 crankamp / 45 amphr
looking at a search on the web I see that the recommended battery is 500 crankamp 60 amphr
To check this I jumped over the installed battery with my galaxy car which is 750 ca /100 amp still not starting as per the utube vid .........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY6U7U1ocjQ
metatag (Search) basingstoke 206cc non starter File terry206cc.mp4
But still not showing any signs of starting !
Panel shows fuel light on but I know it has 10 lts of fresh fuel in it because that is what I added.
All other systems ( I can hear the fuel pump running when I depress the accelerator panel) seem to be working as per the economy mode that is showing on the consol.
Any further ideas on this problem would be a god send
Thanks Terry.

(Hope you are following jump start precautions)
Quick way is to use diagnostics to see if you have corrupted bsi /ecu unit. If diagnostic will not communicate, it's a good sign it's corrupt. If it does you will at least get fault codes.
