ABS continues to activate after pump swap

Hi guys,

We have a serious problem with the 206cc 2lt, 2001 Model, 75 000 miles. The ABS was activating more and more regularly as well as a buzzing noise from behind the center console. The buzzing noise sounded like it could have be a bad "elec conn" or a "runaway servo". I was advised to swap the ABS pump as the ABS issue was getting worse under braking.
The ABS pump has now been swapped but the issue remains. The "center console display", flashes ON and OFF together with the battery light. It sounds like a bad electrical contact from what my partner describes.
Is the elec issue causing the ABS Pump fault?
I have heard about an issue with the "earth strap" at the gear box. I will check this first.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had the fault codes read, if so what were they?

I did have the car connected to the diagnostic machine but this was when the problem was intermittent. I will get it checked again now the issue is pretty much there all the time.

All the Earth points are good. In the engine bay and in the console forward of the gear stick. Fuses and fuse box look OK too.
